I had an ultrasound last month because I had some pain in my testicles, it turned out that I had some varicocels. Basically you have to get an ultrasound to see what's going on inside your balls, you can't get an xray because the radiation is potentially damaging to sperm cells I believe.
The process is simple and painless. I had a woman radiologist do my ultrasound. Basically you get dressed in a robe, lie down on the table and cover your ding-dong with a towel. Then the radiologist comes in the room. Mine dimmed the lights down a bit and it was actually kind of pleasant. Anyways, she puts a bunch of goop on a little hand-held scanner device and just kind of goes back and forth over your testicles for about 15 minutes. I believe the goop helps to make a better contact between you and the scanner. Real-time images are sent to a computer and displayed on the computer screen. The radiologist sends the pictures to the doctor when you're done so that the doctor can evaluate the results. I'd say the only bad thing is that by the time you're done, there's so much goop on your balls that it's pretty much on there all day! ;-) Otherwise, nothing to worry about.

Mine was just like the description above. I have epididymitis pretty bad so this is the third time it has been done. No pain, just a little pressure as they push the ultrasound wand around. Don't worry! :-)

Mine was exactly like the above, and I watched it on the screen as the technician pushed the probe around. He even ultraed my penis even though that was not on the prescription. Made my day.

I had epididymitis as well, and I'm a little worried it's still there because I still feel discomfort from time to time. But yes, the goop will go away after the shower. It is also there to make contact between the scanner device and "you". You just use the towel that you covered yourself with to wipe it all off as best you can, then throw it in the wash bin. You might feel a little dirty, like you just had sex with a lot of lube, on the way home... but it will be fine.

I've had a few ultrasounds done for testicle injuries. Its painless, no shame, takes about 30 minutes to do both balls. Usually a woman tech doing it. They are OK with it and have done lots of them on all ages of males. No big deal at all. You can even watch the results on the computer screen and see what your balls look like inside and all the stuff inside your sack.
