Has anyone else taken this medication and gained weight from it? My doctor says it does not cause weight gain, but I disagree. I have been on Effexor for 2 years and have gained 100 pounds. I went from 165 pounds (male) to over 270 pounds! This is crazy, but it is the only medicine that works for me. Just wondering if anyone else has this experience with Effexor.

I don't know why your doctor said that because it does cause weight gain, although it is rare. 1% of the population who have taken Effexor have experienced weight gain and it sounds like you are that one percent. I'm sorry that you are suffering from such a bad side effect, and I hope that you can find a solution soon. Keep us posted.

I have been on it for a year and gained 30 lbs. I wanted to get off of it but the dizziness and withdrawal symptoms are horrible. It does work for me so I decided to stay on it. The biggest side effect is the weight gain and I had to ask myself if I'd rather suffer from extreme anxiety or gain weight.. For now I opted for the second choice but I'm still unsure how long I will stay on it
