Oh my goodness! You have no idea how relieved/happy i am! I am 14, and got my period about 3months ago. I am a horserider and compete regulary so this means i ride daily. I am a virgin etc. About 1month ago i used my first tampon. It was all fine, no pain etc.. i went for a ride with my friend and we went up to the yards where my mum was waiting. I went into this tiny little portaloo thing to take my tampon out and it wouldn't come out!! I FREAKED! apparently i was in there for an hour. I cried so much because i thought i would have to go to hospital.. I have an extremelly high pain threshaled (spelling) and yanked so hard that i thought i would throw up. Eventually i gave up, and with a tampon half sticking out of me i went and turned my horse out. Anyway i go home, and once the end of the tampon had dried and wasnt so red i noticed a piece of skin! I moved it and got the tampon out. But now it hangs down!! I was so terrified that i had ripped my falopiene (spelling) tubes out, that i spent nights crying - i am a shy person and didn't tell anyone.

Eventually mum noticed i was upset and asked me what was wrong, i told her and she laughed! My mum is a nurse, and she told me that it is COMPLETLEY normal, and alot of people have it (just hardly anyone tells anyone), and not to worry. She said that it may break during sex one day, or it will break during birth (apparently hers did), and that you can get it surfically removed. I am so happy!

I haven't used tampons since, but after reading these posts i will start again on my next period, because i know what to do if it gets caught. BTW, it is painless when i pince it, and looks like a piece of tissue, kind of like a 'hoop' which hangs down out of my vaginal entrance.I can see it when i squat down over a mirror (popping out).

omg i didnt realize how many people had this problem.. i was the same way when i was younger sometimes my tampons would get caught on that piece of skin, then when i was 15 i had sex... the first time my hymen didnt break, but the second time it did... it bleed a little bit but then it stopped.. i noticed the piece of skin hanging down there after that! it is so embarrassing and with every relationship ive had since (im 22 now) ive been self conscious.. any time they wanted to go down on me the light had to be off and id never let them see it.. i went to the gyno today and talked to her about it and she recommended a hymenectomy.. i scheduled an appointment with a specialist, so hopefully i can finally get rid of it and be able to relax and enjoy sex without being self conscious!!! im so glad im not the only one with this problem though.. i had told a few friends about it and they always seemed confused when i explained it.. its such a relief to know something can be done to fix it though!

I am 15. I had sex for the first time wit my bf on June 2, 2012. We had just gotten back from wisconsin that week, we had been swimming in the lake. After sex i bled, I had just thought he popped my cherry, but then whenever i peed i bled a light, bright red and there was pain. I ended up goin to a doctor and figuring out that I had a uti. I got meds and it went away. We had sex again on July 5th 2012, nothing happend i went pee right after to avoid a uti and i was fine. But the we had sex for the third time two days ago, I noticed bleeding after. Now i have this thin, worm like peice of tissue hanging down from the inside of my vagina. It doesnt hurt really its just 100% in my oppinion not normal. My mom doesnt kno that i've had sex. and I know i need to go to a doctor, what should i do?

I know you posted this 4 months ago, but I thought I would reply just in case you haven't been able to find out more information about this. I had a similar experience with a piece of tissue hanging down from the base of my vagina. When I was a younger, my hymen broke during dance. I have had a piece of tissue hanging from my vagina for as long as I could remember and never really thought much about it. It didn't bother me until I started to wear tampons and have sex. If the piece of skin got caught, it was really painful. When I went to the OBGYN for a regular checkup she said that she could remove it if it was bothering me. It is called a "hymenectomy". Needless to say I had it removed yesterday. The area is still tender, but with time it will heal and make wearing tampons and having sex much more comfortable. It sounds like the piece of skin you have is similar to what I had. But keep in mind that every vagina has a different anatomy. This situation is more common that you think, so don't stress over being different. If it isn't bothering you, then I would suggest you don't do anything about it. If it is bothering you, you will have to go see a doctor to have it removed. Because you are a minor, a parent or guardian would have to go with you and sign off on the procedure. If you don't want to talk to your mom about it, you can wait until you are an adult to have this done. Also, every doctor is different and has different opinions. If they tell you that the procedure can't be done now, then you should see a different doctor. Again, keep in mind that all women have different anatomy and I could be totally wrong about your situation. I hope this helps. Try not to stress too much about this. Hopefully you can talk with your boyfriend about this and he will be understanding.

I have the same thing. I used to get tamping stuck on a band of skin, than it eventually broke. I'm not sure when it broke but after I had a baby it hung out of my vagina and made sex uncomfortable and hurt. I just went to the gyno to talk to her about it And she said after my Pap smear results come back, I can make another appt and she will be able to just snip it off.

I don't know if I have the same problem. But anyways, when I was 12 I was peeing and I sneezed and I felt a lot of pain, and it hurt to pee. I get done and wip and there was blood. I was freaking out not understanding what's happening, then I kept to myself, few hours later I tried going pee but I didn't because it hurt. Then, a day later I decide to look down there, and there was a piece of skin covering where the hymin should be. I thought it was normal because I've never looked down there. But now that I'm older I think it's not okay, that I don't have a hymin just a piece a skin. I'm worried because what if when I have sex the guy can't poke it though!! So, any suggestions?? Anyone??

Try googling "imperforate hymen." It might describe your condition.

This helped so much. I got really concerned when I felt it there and it had no feeling to it. Now knowing what it is and why it's caused and what can be done, I don't have to make an eme trip to my gyno. Thanks a bunch!
