I went to my Family Dr April 21st - 4 hrs later I was in surgery with the specialist... The Surgery is nothing - what seemed like a 2 min nap was a two hour surgery. I didn't realize how far they stretch your bottom out... I was black and blue all over even my butt cheeks and I don't bruise easily.
The pain afterwards was immeasurable - I refused pain Meds for fear of constipation - finally on the third day they told me it was a narcotic so there would be no issues - so my recovery might have been less painful - then the pain Meds gave me migraines so again it was back to just mental pain management and ibuprophen... My first Bowel Movement in the hospital was easy peasy... However when I got home on the third day I had to pass a blockage and I literally almost passed out - cold sweat on my back dizziness and then it all passed at once and it was over and a huge relief... I will say... I am starting my forth week and prune juice is your friend!!!!!!!! Also get two or three bent neck irrigation bottles and remove the straw like tube inside so you can invert it and use it to irrigate yourself well... I put a little baking soda in it to relieve the sting (not sure if that's dr approved but it's what I do). Toilet Paper really doesn't work too well but I use it to dry myself and also your seat may get a little wet. I had one occasion of constipation and was in the worst pain you can imagine - so I went to the Pharmacy and got a box of suppository laxatives... It relieved my no go situation but was still excruciatingly painful. I will say this - I would - yes I would do it again all over because my dad had this 30yrs ago and he said he has never had any more Hemorrhoids since.
I had a really extensive surgery but also a great Dr... I'm still having Rash Issues and still weeping from the surgery. The outside they basically skinned and Carturized and it's still open and raw flesh to this day and I am 3 days away from my 4wk mark... I would say the rash is the worst the horrific pains are only on occasion - daily life for me has been working some from home and staying on puppy pads on the couch all day trying to air out this terrible rash Desitin may or may not have helped the rash varies in degrees of how bad it is.
So my suggestions are as follows:
*Eat a high fiber diet
*Get lots of prunes and prune juice (6 good chugs USUALLY hits me quick and cleans me out like water. Trust me it's better - but you MUST BE near your toilet and you will have to run!!!
*Get the bent neck Irrigation Bottles - I looked everywhere you may have to order them online - trust me and get three of them... I got mine from a local Tattoo supply / hippy Chiropractor LOL
I will say until I read all of these I thought I was being weak. But apparently I'm not the only one... Especially about the rash!!!
I just tried ringworm and jock itch medicine last night but not around the surgury area but more around my guy stuffs. It's gotten so bad the skin just wipes off - it a little better this week but I'm still very annoyed by it. My bottom rash is bad but seems different from my "upper area" rash.
It's for sure a cruel humiliating ugly recovery - again though I think it will be worth it~

One more thing - when the pain of passing stools hits - you're heart rate and BP changes so be prepared... You're breathing becomes stressed and it's no scene for others to see in my opinion~
Breathing like a woman giving hearth does help I've noticed~
As someone said blowing / exhaling seems to be the best

This was the most accurate and helpful thing I could possibly have found. Bless you darling. I am having exactly what you had. Like I'd written it myself but you described it slightly better. Very helpful. I found you when I had the idea to see if people had used zinc ointment as a hemorrhoid cream and for the rashly bits. Bless you a hundred times for being so detailed! Mwah

I agree - I tried and spent much money on those natural remedies for 2 years but to no avail - waste of money and false sence of hope!. My cure was a hemorroidectomy a couple of weeks ago- yes it was painful at times but for the most time (at least for me) it was more discomfort - should have done it years ago but the terrible experiences from people in some of the blogs put me off. I understand and fully appreciate everyone have different Pain thresholds/tolerances, what got me through it pre and post operation was to expect the worst (based on people's blogs) but hope for the best.

Erik Bradley Surgery date 10/26/16
This is my 6th day since the surgery. I had 2 softball sized interior hemorrhoids removed and a exterior one as well. I have been passing blood for years prior too being admitted to the hospital this past June because my hemoglobin was at about 6. I got 3 blood transfusions and 2 bags of iron. I was told banding was the next step and had 4 of them done this summer too no avail. Still was bleeding. So surgery came and went and let me tell you worst pain and experience ever. I can't wish this on my worse enemy. Going to the bathroom is painful, lying down painful, getting up even worse. Pain is relentless and constant. Painkillers can only help for so long. I never thought this would be such a bad experience and how much it's taken out of me. I still have a ways too go and hoping this is all worthwhile. Good luck too all and stay positive!

I had multuple interior and exterior hemerroids. Im also relatively young male, so dont think this is only an old or pregnant issue. I am about 18 days past the surgery. I don't think I was really feeling normal until about 2 days ago when I finally stopped bleeding during my bowel movements, and I still have some soreness and itching. I'm also overall physically out of shape from the lounging and having to ease back into my active lifestyle.
Luckily my doctor gave me pretty detailed instructions and I followed them. It also was really important that I had someone to help me (with pretty much everything, but food prep is big) the first 8 days after the surgery which really allowed me to recover better. If you think you're going to sit at work after a week you're crazy in my opinion. I waited 17 months until I was transitioning jobs to take my time and recover.
Buy your supplies beforehand. Change your bandages, take baths, and nap on your belly frequently. I also had a compound creme that perscribed which was very helpful. Baby wipes are so much brtter thsn TP. I used an enema tip (air in bottle) to place some of the cream further up the old hole. Even used the empty bottle with hot water to flush it out after bowel movements before that. Make sure to lube it. Also, Make sure to really to keep a clean enviroment.
I used a written chart and pushed myself to be disciplined despite the drugs. I took narcotics... so stool softener, mild laxatives and prunes, and plenty fiber were an absolute must. I also had to use an enema every day for the first 4 days after the surgery to have a bowel movement. Don't fall behind! It only gets worse. Avoid cheese.
I never caught a rash because I changed bandages every 6 hours for the first week, showered at least 2 times, and let the skin air dry at least twice a day. I would literrally get up at 6am and eat a high fiber breakfast with the pain pills and go through the other parts of the routine and bath. Then I would go back to sleep until 11 or so. It might have helped that I'm young. It definitely helped to lay on a mound of pillows with my but in the air for hours at a time.
I didn't seriously start to sit until about the 12th day and even then with a donut (travel pillow actually). Avoid long car rides and stairs.
I will say that I did notice some significant progress after finally losing the bandages and getting laid around week 2 haha. Seriously though, it did help me losen the area up and I was somewhat careful not to over do it. I don't know what others can do with that information but activity isnt a terrible idea after you get over the hill with the bowel movements. You'll know when that is because, holy moly, it's so painful and bloody.
This is not a surgery you can wing, in my opinion.

wow I had a hemorroidectomy 2 and a half weeks ago and had to go in Dr office today and have stitches on outside (most i see) cut cuz they were cutting into me, I felt better until tonight now now I feel I can't walk n sit well as I want and need to. My stitches seem not to be dissolving good enough for me, I feel a ache now or pressure I mention to him I had to go to michigan Friday morning and he didn't say oh no or anything just said call his office if I needed anything....I'm thinking I might be able for that ride unless laying down all the way there....but for the most part long as you have your prescribed pain meds I didn't hv pain it's the stitches as you said but I'm gonna take ur advice n try fruits and vegetables n taking my fiber powder, I've only had 1 bowel movement (nervous)twice in same day n take my stool softners as usual...I pray I never have to go through this again the heeling process is just too long definitely with me having a 2 yr old at home being a single parent of 3 boys but whn myou oldest 2 are at school

I had my surgery on Oct. 30, (last Monday) it was supposedly an arterial ligation to cut off the blood supply to the heroics and they would just shrink, she said quicker easier recovery. I probably would have just dealt with it if I'd known what the recovery truly is. I have major itching, I'm still at two pain pills every four hours and rotate ibuprofen every six hours. I could live in my bath tub, I'm sore I can't pee, and this just started so I have no idea how I will poop today. What is the true recovery time? Cuz I can't even bend over, getting in the tub is gettin more difficult

I had great luck with Bragg apple cider vinegar. I took hot baths and poured this into it. I put it in my sitz bath and I tucked a flat cotton ball in my butt cheeks soaked in vinegar. Reduced the swelling almost to normal. However something else I used irritated the area and I could no longer use it. Thus...surgery.
