I had this surgery last Thursday (5 days ago). The day of surgery was a breeze. I had general anesthesia and I think it hadn't worn off until late that evening. I took the percocet every 4 hrs as suggested and did the sitz bathes which were helpful. During surgery, when the anesthesiologist removed the breathing tube, my vocal cord collapsed and the esophagus began spasing. He had to give me medication to remove the tube. On Friday I was having extreme difficulty breathing, but this went away by Sat. The swelling was completely gone by Sat night. I didn't have my first bowel movement until Sunday and I had been taking stool softeners, milk of magnesia, and metamucil like candy since the surgery. It was by far the most painful thing I've ever been through. I broke out into a sweat and felt like I was going to throw up and faint all at once. This lasted 15 minutes afterwards. I took a sitz bath with epson salt (bad bad idea) and it stung like crazy. I cried (and I don't cry) for about 10 minutes before I could catch my breath. I was in pain for a few hours after this, but it was manageable. I am worried about having another bowel movement. I feel like I have two hemorrhoids again after the first bowel movement.
