What a great article, thanks so much for sharing. I'm 3 days post-op and wondering what I let myself in for! In fact I didn't, I went in for a colonoscopy and to check out a fissure, and out came four big haemorrhoids while I was under. It's just all pain, and my current routine is basically bed to bath. Those warm baths are heaven and I understand fully sh*****g in the bath although I haven't done so yet. How life can reduce us to the basics when survival is all we care for. What new perspective, I will appreciate every moment of wellness once I'm through this one! Thanks again, it's kind of helped!

I would like to add to what you have mentioned about having the hemorrhoidectomy surgery. I had my surgery on 20 April 2015 and the pain is just as everyone described throughout this thread and various other forums I have read. I am a male and of course never had a child but that pain reminds me of what I have seen in a delivery room so I imagine it's as painful as having a child if not worse. However on a positive note, in time is does tend to go away. The first two days after surgery I did not get a lot of sleep because of the amount of water I was drinking and of course the pain. I was in the bathroom pretty much every half hour to pee. It also felt like I wanted to have a bowel movement (BM) but nothing would come out but it was painful just sitting there and thinking about it. You body reacts naturally to pain and what it wants to do so I just let things took their natural course that of course with the recommendations by the doctors office. Such as drinking lots of water, doing the sitz-bath, taking recommended medications and applying those creams i.e. Hydrocodone/APAP (Vicodin) for pain, Colace a good stool softner along with metamucil, and Proctozone-HC 2.5% cream for your bottom, fresh up wet ones instead of toilet paper to wipe with after bm's and kotex maxi pads to catch the drainage until you're bottom is healed. I also recommend eating Fiber One cereal, lots of fruits i.e. apple, grapes, watermelon, grits, eggs, oatmeal, and vegetable salads. These all worked for me. In the end, I was into the sixth day before I felt normal again and the pain was manageable. I cut back on the pain medication but continued everything else. My bm's are not as painful as before and I feel as if I am almost back to normal. I highly recommend this procedure to anyone that is suffering from major hemorrhoid problems and the key to a fast recovery is rest first, hydrocodone/APAP (Vicodin), colace, metamucil, and proctozone-HC 2.5% or any recommended cream, fresh up wet ones, and kotex maxi pads. Foods to eat high in fiber; Fiber One cereal, fruits i.e. apple, grapes, watermelon, grits, eggs, oatmeal, and vegetable salads. Good luck and I look forward to any and all replies. If I can make it thorough this at my age, you can as well..

I did the procedure January 13 2016 because it was bleeding already. Being my first surgery ever, i was scared as hell going into the operating room. i was in the hospital from January 13 afternoon and they discharged me January 15 noon.
I was back to work January 18 although i was only reporting to work for 4 hours at a time, the remaining i had to work at home because i had to do the sitz bath. the doctor gave me antibiotics, hemorid, and arcoxia for a week.
January 23 i went to see my doctor and told me that the wound is healing up well and i can already go back to regular activities but no straining.
The pain - the pain medication given by my doctor was a blessing. i did not really experience pain the whole time i was in the hospital and the following week when i went to work. bleeding was gone in about 3 days. i walk weird because i've been trying to take it easy on my wound. also, there is discomfort when i walk still, especially after bowel movement.
Speaking of BM, Jan. 24 i did a huge BM and i think i strained it a bit. dull pain all throughout the day. i'm hoping and praying that the incident does not pose any problems in the long run and will not hamper my recovery in any way. i googled the best way to do a BM and i see that you need to squat to avoid straining. i did so today and it was a success. however, the dull pain is still there. i really hope that this is just the post-op wound and nothing more.
currently out of pain meds and antibiotics. all i have left are hemorid and sitz bath. hoping that i really go back to normal really soon. still on soft foods and fibrous diet. gave up coffee altogether because i read that it can lead to hard stools.
all the best for us all.
