Hello there, i just had my surgery this May 10, they got 5 hems out (internal and external). I felt no pain on the process because of the spinal injection, but that was before the pain killer went gone. on the 1st day, I had a very hard time on peeing, and i felt like my hems are still there and really hurting. Now i had been doing some BM, and it feels like end of the world, and feels the stitches are going loose (just a feeling, i hope so) what should i do? is there any meds that would help me do BM with ease? ive been drinking liquids since then. how long will it take for my wounds to fully heal?

Bowel movements will hurt for quite a while. Did your doctor prescribe a laxative and a stool softerner after your surgery? Mine did both and in additon to the water, I tried to get 20 or so grams of fiber although the first few days after surgery, I tried to eat a pretty bland diet.

As to your wounds, I stopped bleeding with bms at the end of my third week and that is when the soreness stopped. My doctor said it could take up to 8 to 12 weeks to be fully healed although he said I was pretty well healed at my 7 week checkup. That checkup was supposed to be at 4 weeks post-op but he went on holiday and I wanted him to check me, not someone who hadn't done the surgery.

Be sure to take your prescribed meds to help with the pain and my doctor also advise me to take Ibuprofin in between for the first 3 days. I also used ice packs when I got uncomfortable. I was one of the lucky ones that really didn't have a lot of pain. Things got up to about a 3 for bms and most of the time, my pain was at a 0 or at the most, at a 2 when I tried to cut back on pain meds a little too early.

Good luck with your recovery.
