My mother has had several cortisone injections over the last 7 years. Two weeks ago, she began a series of one shot per week of Hylan G-F20. She said after her first injection her knees do not hurt at all. I have been reading about Hylan G-F20 that it elastoviscous fluid. What does it mean? Can it hurt my mum?

Hi there! First, Synvisc is a sterile, nonpyrogenic elastoviscous fluid that contains hylan polymers. Hylans are cross-linked derivatives of hyaluronan. It is indicated for use as a temporary replacement and supplement for synovial fluid, so it cannot hurt your mum. It did quite well for me in last around 5-6 months. From other patients that are taking Synvisc I have heard only good things.
