Is it normal if my boyfriend masterbates sometimes even if I'm there?

I have been with my boyfriend for almost a full year and it's the longest relationship I've been in so sorry if this is a silly question. The other night I caught him trying to coherse me to go sleep in my room while he masterbated to porn on his laptop. At first it was no biggy and I even offered to help him out but he told me that he really just wanted to do it alone. He assured me that it wasn't because I wasn't doing enough because 'our sex was amazing' and we have it almost every day. He also said he wanted to do it before having sex with me that night yet he insisted that I go to sleep before he did it...is this normal??
