Same thing happened to me after using the Monistat 1 ovule. This is the most intense pain I have ever felt in my life. The nurse today said she had never seen a vagina so swollen and wondered how I was even able to drive to the Dr's office. I was in so much pain after the exam they gave me a shot of pain med. I was put on Difflucan, a steroid for the allergic reaction and an antibiotic for a possible UTI as well. I was advised to use a cold compress and that does seem to ease the pain even though it is uncomfortable. NEVER again will I use another Monistat product, don't ever want to have to go through this pain again!

Monistat 1 is known to be very strong, from experience the doctor has told me that it is too strong for someone who has sensitive skin and is allergic 2 anything scented (like yourself). Also, the inflamation and overal infection you are describing sounds pretty minor and definatly didn't require something as strong as monistat 1, if the infection is minor go 4 at least monistat 3 and because you're very sensitive i would use monistat 7. It might be an allergic reaction but i'd say that it's more due to the fact that the formula was 2 strong 4 u.

I had the same reaction once I put it in. The next morning I could barely sit but benedryl worked for me and killed the swelling and itching. So, I agree with the above post saying that the dosage was just too high. I would recommend going to the doctor if it doesn't help after 3-7 days.

I am having the same issues. Exactly a week ago i was prescribed Bactrim for a UTI and it gave me a yeast infection. I called my gyno this past thursday to see if they could give me a prescription for the diflocam ( 1 pill dosage ) instead of using a messy cream. I figured they would be able to do this over the phone bcuz i had my annual pap smear the day before and wasnt having symptoms but they are supposed to check for that. My dr said they didnt check for that and i would need to go back in and that they dont ever prescribe diflocam they believe in treating the area locally rather than orally, or they said i could try monistat...i was frustrated bcuz i couldnt wait for relief while waiting for another appt so i got the monistat 1 ovule stuff...well its the next day almost 24 hours from when i inserted the ovule and the iching is mostly gone and the discharge but now i'm so swollen down there i can barely walk, put on underwear...do anything! I called the on call dr about an hour ago and he said that it sounds like an allergic reaction which is normal with monistat and to take advil and or benedril and keep an ice pack on it and if it doesnt get better in a few days or gets worse i need to be seen. Seriously! This was my week of vacation from work..and ive been in pain from a uti, to a yeast infection to now this! UGH

Ladies you are never alone.I'm 18 and earlier of 2010 i thought i had an yeast infection so i decided i was gonna home treat. Went and bought the monistat cream you insert inside and the cream comes out. Well after doing this my vagina was swollen to where i couldn't walk and it hurted to pee and wipe and i got a low fever. Went to an obgyn and they said i might have herpes because of lesions that had formed there. I cried and cried, but the first ob i went to did said it off of a looking basis. Went to another ob and they swabbed the lesions and prescribed me Diflucan(sp?). After taking that pill i got better and my test came back negative. I did a full std test and everything was okay. I thought of suicide and everything because i was scared to live with herpes. I have been in a faithful relationship for 3 years now and he nuts in me and everything, so pretty sure i would have caught something by then. I'm glad everything is okay and i will never use that medicine again.

I just got off of antibiotics for strep throat. I had been taking it for 10 days. Once the ten days were up i began to notice swelling, strange odor, discharge, itching, burning, and sharp abdominal pains. I didn't think it was an infection until 2 nights ago, it was difficult to sleep. I used monistat last night and I now have diarrhea and I just puked. Am i allergic to monistat?

I can't believe that I just found this topic. Four hours too late... I am up at 3:10am because I am still burning and itching and in pain from the Monistat-1. I sat in the shower for an hour, took a bath, showered again, tried the same tampon trick someone did to get as much of the ovule out as I could. Unreal. Most excruciating pain EVER. I can't believe that this product is even on the market. I want to strangle someone. Never had a problem with the 3-day before. Guess I will be calling my doc tomorrow to try something else.

I have used Monistat-1 before and never had an issue until now. My vagina is on fire! I'm swollen, my lips are raw and bleeding some, and the itching on top of the burning is unbearable. I'm broke too so it's not like I can afford to go to the doctor, especially since the only reason I got a yeast infection was from taking drugs for strep throat. Need to know if there is ANY WAY to stop the burning and the intense swelling cause this hurts way to much. I have taken a bath, washed myself out as much as humanly possible, and now have an ice pack on so I don't go crazy. How is this product still on the shelves? Why hasn't the FDA marked this unsafe??? And how can they still have commercials out saying they can cure the common yeast infection? If this is a cure then wow, hell has frozen over!
Also, my sister had a similar reaction two years ago only to find out in the E.R. she was pregnant... can pregnancy be a reason for the reaction? I don't think I'm pregnant but I figured I would ask.

I am freaking out pretty bad over my bodies reaction to Monistat 1. I had similar issues to everyone else on here. It made me have extreme swelling, pain and itchieness. I also have strange bumps that formed around my vulva. I look very deformed from it at the moment. I did what some others said and tried to get the Monistat out of me, but I had it inside me for 3 insanely painful days before doing so. It has now been 8 days since using the product. While my yeast infection symptoms appear to be gone, I am still very swollen, inside and out. I had sex for the first time since using it last night and It was extremely painful. Also, I am supposed to have my period, but I don't. When I had sex last night I bled all over my partner, I thought I had finally gotten my period (the only plus of this embarrasment) but the next morning no blood. I am so swollen I am scared the blood from my period is stuck up inside me and cannot get out. Also, I still look deformed down there. Will these awful things ever go away? Or am I going to be deformed and have painful sex forever due to using this horrible product?

This website has been so comforting. I took the 1 day monistat on sunday and aplied the cream sun evening as well. Monday I was experiencing pain and itching an burning, by mon evening i had blistering and was very swolen. I couldn't walk or sit doen. I went to the emergency room and the doctor asked me if it was possible i had herpes. I have been married for 3 years and we haven't had sex in the past week but the symptons came after i put the creame on. I had never used monistat 1 day before nor the creame. It is thursday and i amd still in pain but it is getting better. I have been bathing in cool water with apple cidar vinegar.

I'm SO glad I found this post! I had a very minor yeast infection, and I assumed monistat 1 was for just that.. a minor infection. I had NO IDEA it was 7 days worth of medicine in one dose! I have NEVER been in such agony in my entire life. Day one was slight itching, due to yeast infection.. By nighttime it had gotten worse, and I didn't want to miss work due to a bad infection, so I went the next Morning to purchase monistat 1, thinking it was a small dosage.. Nowhere on the package did it indicate that it was extra extra extra strength! I took it around 630am, and by 630 pm my whole area "down there" was swollen beyond all belief. My clit was 3 times the normal size, I could barely walk, and if I sat down it literally brought tears to my eyes it hurt so bad. By the next morning I had tiny little blisters and I cried everytime I peed. I've never, ever in my entire life been in so much pain. Today is Tuesday, 4 days after taking the treatment, and I'm still blistered and raw. I don't have money or insurance to go to the dr so I'm hoping it heals completely on it's own soon. My boyfriend is so worried about me bc I still can barely sit down. Sex is out of the question. I can barely touch down there to wash, it still hurts so bad. Monistat 1 is a HORRIBLE PRODUCT and needs to be taken OFF OF THE MARKET!!! I seriously can't believe there is no warning or anything on the package. I've NEVER been in such pain in my entire life!! If anyone has any suggestions on how to speed up the recovery, PLEASE let me know.
