Hello, folks. My friends’ baby has been recently diagnosed with secretive otitis. I don’t know much about this ear infection, so I was hoping to find out something more here. Can anyone tell me if this type of otitis is dangerous for hearing sense in kids? I would appreciate all your replies.

Hello, there. I am not sure about secretive otitis. You should ask an expert. However, I know that recurrent infections can lead to hearing loss in babies. If the fluid remains for weeks in middle ear, then it can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss. Temporary hearing loss appears since a baby can hear well through this fluid. Permanent hearing loss appears when this fluid erodes or scars the eardrum. Your friends should take their baby to the ENT specialist. He can perform the hearing test. I hope everything will be all right. Good luck!
