Hello, folks. My brother has some tumor in his ear and I think he is a candidate for a surgical removal. However, I would like to know if this procedure is possible without the loss of hearing. I would like my brother to hear normally. Can anyone tell me something more about this? Thanks.

Hi, there. I guess your brother has a tumor on acoustic nerve. Such tumors are very delicate and its removal as well. It would be very difficult to remove it with preserving his hearing. However, there are studies that are trying to achieve this. The rate of people with preserved hearing after acoustic neurinomas hasn’t been always high. You should discuss this thoroughly with his ENT specialist and see the options. I hope this will help you in your conversation. Good luck! Bye!
