Hi Everyone,

I had a total hysterectomy in 1996. After the surgery, I developed fibromyalgia and had no libido. The doctor

gave me klonopin for the fibro. IT helped get back to a normal life except for the libido. I have withdrawn

from the klonopin  and haven't taken the medicine for 4 months. I never adjusted  to HRT except for estrace

cream which I stopped taking in about 2005 due cancer concern. Now out of nowhere my libido has

returned. I am wondering if the klonopin suppressed my libido for all those years without me knowing it.

Any thoughts.

Hi, so glad to hear your libido has returned-yay! And yes benzodiazepines like Klonopin does cause a decrease in libido, as well as a change in emotions and overall personality. It was the hardest medication to recover from after taking it for a year post heart surgery. My anxiety actually got better without it. I have a 30 year history with endometriosis and pain meds (lots of surgeries) which in turn, caused me to get fibromyalgia. I suffer every day but nothing can ever make me take klonopin again! Everyone's different and it's used for a variety of conditions, so it should not be stopped abruptly, or without medical supervision.
