I've tried all the creams, suppositories, herbal poultices, meds from Canada, ect. out there for relief from my internal and external hemorrhoids. I've spent (like many of you) hundred's of dollars on this and that. I'm presently using a plain old ice cube (in a baby wipe) to give me relief from the ever present burning and itching. When I first started using ice, I'd get relief for up to 24 hours from a single application, then it gradually went down. Now my relief lasts about 3 hours, before I have to pop in another one. The trouble near as I can tell is way back at the anal sphincter. I'm starting to have fantasies about packing my butt with ice - a lot of it.
I've got some left over Lidoderm Lidocaine patches 5% from a non related pain problem. The info sheet that comes with it clearly states "for external use only"...but I'm wondering and very, very tempted to go ahead and try these on my problem. Are there any Professionals out there who can give me a good reason why I shouldn't apply them there? 10-12 hours relief would sure beat 3 and no there's no bleeding, so I don't believe lidocaine toxicity is or would be an issue....course I wouldn't want to end up dead cause I made a mistake. Physicians are always coming up with new uses for existing drugs. How bout it? comments please?

Lidoderm patch (36 hours post OP several huge internal and external hemorrhoidectomy surgery): product burned at first a lot like splashing alcohol on your wound, after 2-3min of burning the numbing action kicked in, lasted many hours and allowed me to be able to sleep. Totally worth it.
Ice cube comes in second place for relief of burning, itching, and soreness.
