I had a terrible pizza the other night. It was far too hot and I spit out the first bite that I had immediately upon its entry into my mouth. However, there is now a painful lump on the palate of my mouth and I am sure it got burnt. All eating and drinking is painful. Do I let this heal by itself, or do I seek medical care?

If it does not seem to be improving, you are in a lot of pain, or if it feels infected in any way, you do need to get to a doctor right away. I am sure that you need a course of antibiotics to help fight infection, since so much goes through the mouth each day. You might also be able to get something to speed up the healing process.
