I mean, I knew what it was, but not the name of it. So, he told me I can choose to have the lump removed but it is not medically necessary. What would you do?

I would judge by the level of discomfort that the lump causes for you. If there is pain, like you mentioned, and the procedure to have the lump removed is not very invasive, and not expensive, I would probably choose to have it done. Also because I am always weary lumps can turn into dangerous growths later on.
