I have been generally ill and feverish over the last week or so, to the point that I even suspected I had H1N1 at some stage. Now, I have a sore throat that basically prevents me from speaking, as well as a lump on the roof of my mouth. Have you got any ideas about what is causing this and what I can do about it?

When you have the flu, your immune system is attacked and this makes you more susceptible to all kinds of other issues. Do you know what I am thinking? It could be some sort of cold sore but inside the mouth. My guess is that this will fade away once you start getting better. But hey, if you suspect swine flu, you really do need to call a doctor right away!
