I recently had a ANA antibody test done that came back positive. I was curious about the blotchy, purplish color of my legs and feet and told her how my feet get cold and sometimes my toes go numb. She wasn't very concerned but suggested getting this test done, since it can sometimes be associated with Lupus. The test came back positive with moderate levels of these autoantibodies. It wasn't high enough to suggest lupus, but not on the low end either. She didn't seem concerned about following up with other tests, since I show no symptoms of anything. Aside from my cold feet, I feel fine, and look fine. I am afraid I have a disease. Should I be worried or is it sometimes normal to get a postive reading and not be sick?

Hello there Jenw10179,

In most of the cases positive ANA doesn’t mean that you are suffering from some incurable autoimmune disease, especially if you don’t have any severe symptoms so stop stressing yourself out. If your doctor told you that you are fine and that you don’t need to worry about more serious conditions I would listen to her. You are among lucky people who don’t have to deal with autoimmune disorders. These disorders can be very unpleasant because in most of the cases there is no cure since the cause is also unknown.

I hope that you will get better soon and that symptoms you are experiencing  at this moment will be gone soon. Good luck.
