I am aware that polymyositis is a disease that can be both very serious and very mild. What I have been unable to find anywhere though, is what the mortality rate is among those who suffer from polymyositis. Can you people enlighten me perhaps? Thanks for any info you may have.

I have have Polymyositis, followed by Toxic Myopathies for 15 years. Many drugs increase the inflammation, sometimes it is just the Brand of Drug, like Letrozole brand Apotek gave me severe attack w/signs of cancer recurrence, I was taking the Teva Brand for 3 years with no problems. Daily childrens aspirin, and keeping sugar intake as low as possible keeps inflammation levels down and I am better able to walk and do light housework. I don't add sugar to anything, it hasn't been in the home since 1976, I check ingredients on food to make sure there is less than 6 grams of sugar per serving. It is very difficult as so much sugar is added to almost everything. I but boxes of plain raisins to add to my plain bran flakes for breakfast, All brands now sugar coat their raisins, STUPID! I have complained to them for changing, but they don't care. "Stupid Is As Stupid Does"! I developed Polymyositis when I was 38 I am now 65, I have ups and downs mostly caused by drugs. I have learned to check the brands to make sure my pharmacy hasn't changed on me, they did just this January, they didn't tell me and I didn't notice, just 4 days after stopping the Apotek Brand most of my pain and inflammation was at low levels. Often I have found Doctors don't know how drugs can affect and damage certain individuals they aren't educated enough. Hope this information helps others suffering.
