Hi, I'm 32 years old. I got my injection on August 4, 2016 and I got my period on August 24th, it was a normal period then just brown spotting. I'm on day 13 of this. And I am irregular, I take norethindrone once month to have a period. Im due to take the norethindrone this month but I don't know it'll help the spotting stop or I don't know what to do. It's annoying. Any advice? Will this ever stop?

I, too, am thrilled I found this thread. I am 46F. Been almost 2 yrs since I had back surgery to remove a cyst from my spine located L4-L5. Obviously affected nerves in spine, and signals sent. I bleed, clotted and flooded for almost 3 months b4 and after surgery. It wasn't until an ER visit and was started on Progesterone the bleeding slowed. Took 3 more months before I became regular again. My back issues returned along with left leg problems. But because the cyst hadn't returned, I am treated like I'm crazy. M Cycle remained normal for full year. Eventually sent to pain management. 1st treatment went ok, Told it takes several treatments. 2nd treatment was brutal. I was in so much pain. Got worse. 3rd treatment was nail in coffin. Back pain was horrific, left leg worse, and now right leg having major issues. Surprise, no period for 2 months. E1 tried to tell me it was pre-menopause. Almost 2 months later, my right leg started getting better. I attribute this to the injected fluid finally starting to dissipate. Only a few days later, my period returned. (no correlation?) Again, massive bleeding, flooding and passing huge clots. Multiple pads every 5 minutes. I would have to sit in bathroom for hours because bleeding so bad. After 2 1/2 weeks of this, I couldn't breathe. An ambulance trip later, 4 days in hospital and 4 units of blood. Again, progesterone prescribed, and minimized to spotting again. I think the progesterone sends the signals that the nerve damage, or "Pain Management" steroid shots hindered. Currently still under ob/gyn care. My insights: #1. Doctors don't know everything. #2. Any problems or "treatments" you have with your lower back most certainly can affect your cycle. #3. Passing enormous clots are common, though scary and very uncomfortable. They are not actually clots, they are result of bleeding so fast your body doesn't have time to break them down before evacuating them. #4. Don't hesitate. After several days of flooding, shortness of breathe or dizziness, GET TO THE DOCTOR! It is major blood loss and can have detrimental results. #5. You know your body. Don't live by doctors' or other peoples' opinions. I knew it wasn't menopause. Turns out I have the follicles and ovaries of a 30 yr old. Great, birth control still needed. #6 Lastly, I plan on printing all 10+ pages of this thread and distributing many copies to the doctors, lawyers, friends, family and hospital that treated me like I was crazy. Many thanks to those who shared before me! And for those after me, YOU ARE NOT CRAZY AND YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

I know it's been awhile since your post but be advised I am so grateful to have found it. It's been 13 days and was starting to be really concerned. The only change I could think of was the spinal cortisone injections. My husband thought I was nuts. Turns out not so nutty and more importantly I can wipe away my fret tears. Thank you

Wow. Im so sorry u went thru all that. Somethg needs to be said about this. I suffered for 3 months bleeding like a stab victim. The smell was aweful and i was soooo embarrassed. I pray one day a class action suit is started from this. We deserve to know the side effects of steroid injections and they refuse to be honest with us

This JUST happened to me! I thought I was the only one. I'm the exact same way - very regular period lasting about 4 days, normal flow type thing and always on time give or take a few days. I had my injections on Oct 21, 2016, and my period wasn't until the 31st (beginning usually falls around the 24-27) so right away I thought it was a little odd. Fast forward to this morning (November 12) and the best way to describe it is that I've felt like it's been the last day of my period for about a week now. This morning I got super paranoid (I heard anxiety was a side effect of the injections) so I went to the Gyno this morning and got checked out. Everything is fine - and when I told him I had injections recently he said "that's going to be the reason", before we did any tests. Turns out it is. I'm not on birth control, I used to be about 4 years ago. He told me had I been on it at the time of my injections my period would've stayed normal. I had an option of taking a pill for 10 days, and then after those 10 days, I'd get a heavy period and it would sort of "reset" itself. However, it would stop the bleeding. Or option 2 was to go back on birth control. I decided to do so because I didn't stop for any reason other than I kept forgetting to take the pill on time and didn't want to harm my body so I'm giving it another try. Hopefully that'll help you figure it out too, head over to the gyn and hopefully that's all it is. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing! It's really a relief to know I'm not the only one that is or has gone through this whole ordeal!

Thank you so much for this thread! I am experiencing some of the same side effects. My mother entered menopause early due to Toxic Shock Syndrome back in the 80's, so she tried to convince me I was pre-menopausal. I currently have an IUD and generally experience a few hours of spotting per month. My first cycle after an injection in my foot has resulted in 2 days of heavy spotting followed by one day off cycles. I am on cycle 4 of this. Yes it is certainly manageable, but would have been nice to know this as a side effect, so I want to ease other's minds and possibly save them from a trip to the Doc, to be told it's normal, or oh..we need to use your insurance to run some tests. Hang in there ladies!

Yes, I had one cortisone shot in Dec in one knee and one in Jan, other knees. I haven't had my period since taken these shots. Called my gyno, tells me first try pregnancy test, not pregnant. Now I'm scheduled to see gyno again, find out what's going on,

I had a steroid shot two weeks ago. I should have had my period during that first week but have just had prolonged spotting the entire two weeks. I kept thinking this was odd and wondered if I was going through the change of life at age 47.
