Let it be known that there are ways to deal with the stresses and, at times, tortures of life. Be positive in thought even if it seems to be pretentious. Realize that some of the most infamous people in this world shared the same diagnosis as all of us. Some of these people have done great things for humanity. There are ways to take sh*t and make it gold.

I've been on seroquel 900mg for a year. I get hallucinations when I take it and I kept complaining to the doctor. He finally said to stop. From 900mg I went to 600 for a month. Then down to 400mg a month. Then I couldn't sleep so I had to buy a lot of beer to get me winding down. Then from 400mg I went to 100mg in a month. After that I stopped. Got really itchy the 3rd day and till now. I take benadryl for itchy stop and drink a lot of liquor to go to sleep. I know this isn't healthy but I couldn't sleep for couple days and had to do something about it. I've had hemorrhoids after the 1st week. Then I'm feeling better. =) Now I don't have to drink to go to sleep.
Good luck to you guys out there! Just sharing info....

We call it "self medicating" this can take you on a turn for the worst.
Maybe reconsider the idea of stopping one drug to start another. Also if you can’t stop using a drug stop meaning quitting, I would suggest visiting a local AA (Alcohol Anonymous) or NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meeting. They tend to be very helpful and will give you ideas.
Good luck and best of wishes.

It has been two days since I quit Seroquel cold turkey. My dose was 200mg a day. I have been taking this amount for 3 months. Have had only 2 hours of sleep so far.....Have felt wonerful like my better old self.... And not at all tired. Odd. After reading the horror stories of others am dubious. But I am going to stay the course. Was diagnosed with bi-polar and found the drug did level the playing field however I became more and more bland. What I do think is it gave me the ability to see the world without the anxiety. And with that knowledge know where I want to be and think I can handle my bi-polar with meditation, diet and a determination to do without the drug. I may be wrong but time will tell....I am also having muscle tightening. Will keep posting as this situation continues.[/quote I was taking 800mgs and am weaning myself off, tonight I wont take any more seroquel. This is what helps me with any withdrawals 4mgs of Clonipin for sleep, SleepFast from Walgreens , 5HTP vitamin for calming your nerves I take 100mgs in A.M and 100mgs before bed. It really works. Please if they want to put you on Seroquel, please say no, I have gained 80lbs in the first year of taking it and you cant lose it if you still take it. Please say NO!

I have been there quitting meds, and life just screws up, I have found that acceptance a necessary evil, and with that a enjoyable life has followed. We must accept who we are, pills and all, to move on and be successful.

And for the weight gainers! There is hope! Well of course diet and exercise. It changed my ife but my doctor added Topamax to my drug cocktail and the main side effect is appetite suppression. It is the same exact time I started running though so I'm not sure how much was the drugs or how much was me but I lost 20 pounds. I do run 5 days a week and lift weights so I know that has the majority of the weight loss to credit. I changed my diet too. It took some getting used to but once I phased processed foods out and switched to organic I feel like a million bucks. My other friend went on Topamax for headaches and lost 7 pounds so it might just help reduce the carb cravings... But people please don't complain about gaining weight while you're sitting on the couch doing nothing eating chips. What do you expect? Weight loss takes work! Hard work! Not just diet not just exercise but both. A healthy lifestyle.

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and I'm concerned about the health of the baby while I'm on Seroquel so I'd like to stop it. I think I'll work with a doctor, all these cold turkey stories seem so extreme. I dont want to take that risk.

Whole treatment:
1.0 year 400mg (ok) (400mg)
0.5 year 300mg (ok) (300mg)
1 month 200mg (ok) (200mg)
2 months 100mg (ok) (100mg)
1 month 50mg (fully ok) * (100mg)
4 days 0 mg (little) sleep) * (100mg)
1 week 100mg (insomnia) * (100mg)
1 week 100mg (about ok) * (200mg)
2 weeks 0 mg (little sleep) * (200mg)
3 weeks 100mg (little sleep) * (200mg)
Values in parenthesis (200mg) are the prescribed ones given by doctor.
My failure has been due 2 reasons:
* When going down: If you cannot sleep with lower dose *DONT* try to keep
yourself eating - it may be the case that the rebound insomnia at higher dose is
then worse and you cannot go back to it.
* I was too greedy.
Tried to go from 50mg directly to 0mg and be there even with sleeping problems
* Make sure you can have good access to doctor when you need him/her
so you can correct your mistakes quickly (use money)
* Be well prepared and read all the tips from the web and try to get all possible support
* Use sleeping pills to handle **temporarily** problems but use them sparingly unless really needed
* Go slowly. Again, for me the mistake was the attempt to go from 50mg to 0mg and
not to 25mg and not going quickly enough back to 50mg. The frustration of going to
100mg with new side-effects caused the 2 weeks of 0 mg after which 100mg
is not enough.
* Don't try to go to 0 from anything else than 100mg/50mg or something
I guess I will have to go to 200mg although it (now) seems to make me
unable to concentrate or think clearly (I'm freed by the evening).
In general, don't start eating seroquel or other antipsychotics easily.
Use multiple doctors before you start using these kind of drugs. I think
I could have benefited more from different kind of treatment and
my life would be much better without using these kind of drugs
for so long.
