I just stopped 200 mg of seroquel 3 days ago. I have a hard time sleeping through the night, bad migraines, stiffness in neck, and anxious. I was on it for over two years. Scared I will relapse from my depression. On top of that, it's Mom's Day, and I lost her 22 years ago. Bad day!

Read up on this as I have stopped taking this drug due to the weight gain. I have also been itching like crazy and found out Seroquel is actually also an anti-histamine and that's why...so it was recommended to get a low dose anti-histamine to counter this effect. Hope this helps you:)

hey im on the same sh*t and quit cold about 5 days ago. it started last night where i didnt sleep the whole night and napped in the day then went home and slept again for 6 hours. couldnt sleep the rest of the night until 5 30 am and felt horrendous this morning. this is not the first time ive quit cold. i was on depaote for 4 years and stopped last year and felt absolutely nothing but happiness and better. then was put on 1500 mg of d and 100 of seroquel to help my insomnia it doesnt help. i feel insane when im on them and act crazy so ive had enough. ive been more calm less irritated and have more fun except for the fact that im constantly nauseous when im just sitting or laying down. if im engaged in something i feel fine. im sure it will pass you just gotta stay with it. im hoping it passes cause i literally feel horrible and cant do my job at times. but it should get better. its deff the seroquel that is going to cause symptoms. im also on lithium that i stopped because it was giving me tremors. but just stay with it and if there is a real concern that you are worried about and just cant seem to control or doesnt go away. consult your physician first. your phsych isnt gunna do anything besides try to prescribe different drugs so he gets his money. and if its a health concern your physician is the one who can handle it.

I have actually had NMS once before. When you have it, you'll know.. theres no question about it. Your muscles contract as if you are shivering non-stop and unable to control it. High blood pressure accompanies as a symptom. If you anyone trying to stop taking Seroquel, you need to slowly ween your body off of it by slowly decreasing by mg. I was on 600 mg and now I am taking 300 and slowly getting off of the drug. I was told my several doctors, if I ever started to feel twitchy or experiences uncontrollable movements to take Benadryl because the odds are that its an allergic reaction. If that fails, seek medical attention. You can die from NMS if left untreated.

I've been through withdrawal once before with a different medication so there is no way I would ever try going cold turkey from a high dose as some here have done.  However I felt my liver and overall health was being affected by the seroquel and was ready to try other means of managing my insomnia and depression.  I was on 400 mg a night for about 3 years.  Then I went down to 300, 200, 100, 50, and then 25 mg, over the course of about a year and a half.  I didn't consult my doctor but I did inform him each time I went down and received lectures but grudging acceptance.   I finally quit it altogether a week ago, which involved not sleeping at all the first night, and very limited, broken sleep this past week which has left me feeling fatigued and anxious.  I had an upset stomach as well but can't definitely attribute that to the seroquel as I may have drank some bad water.  I have tried some herbal teas which have helped, certain blends are pretty strong, but I don't want to depend on those every night either so I am avoiding them for now. I also intend to try those sleep hypnosis cd's.  I found that even on the low dose of seroquel, experimenting with my diet, such as trying the paleo diet, had a huge effect on my sleep patterns, so I may keep trying to make changes in my diet although that is difficult for me because of an eating disorder.   Also, if I can muster the discipline, I would like to try going to sleep every night when it gets dark and getting up when it's light, I wonder if our bodies are not confused by us fighting the natural rhythms of the day/night cycle.  Many people here are also recommending CBT.  There are so many things to try that I am sure something will help me achieve unmedicated sleep.  I hope the rest of you thinking of going off the seroquel are both encouraged by all non-pharmaceutical options and that you don't feel the need to rush the process of going off your medication.   I actually had a short but very meaningful dream the other night, whereas on the seroquel I didn't usually remember my dreams or they were just bizarre.  So that gave me further encouragement that this is the right path.

I stopped 200 mg of Serequel for sleep 4 days ago. Didn't sleep the first couple of nights, hardly the 3rd - tonight I picked up melatonin 10 mg which has worked in the past and I hope will work now. In these past 4 days I have had a fever, offset with tylenol and NO appetitie. Which is good, because I too gained about 20 pounds on this med. Some headaches too, I think in a few more days I'll be ok. Just my feeling anyways. I know everyones body responds differently! Hang in there everyone!

Ive been on it for 2 months. I took my 100mg of seraquel 2 nights ago, and it gave me sharp pains in my heart and chest which told my brain somethings wrong and i had massive waves of panic and anxiety. This drug is horrible. I'd rather deal with my Borderline/bipolar in my own way. Cavemen didnt need prescriptions, im going to change my diet and lifestyle and get away from these nasty pills. BTW my withdrawels todays after missing my dose last night include headaches, dizzyness, nausea.  GREAT. THANKS DOC.

This is my 2nd night of not taking Seroquel. Yesterday I couldn't move, just stayed on the couch feeling like I had the flu....muscles ached, hot and nausious. I barely got 3 hours of sleep Saturday night. Last night was about 5 hours and I was constantly tossing and turning and looking at the clock. I was taking 50 mgs. before bed, for sleep. I've been on Seroquel for about 7 years now. I do NOT like the way I feel right now. I'm very upset because I feel like I'm sick with the flu. Also, I recently learned that Seroquel is an anti-psychotic and was never tested for sleep.

Have you read the info recently that states that the army had prohibited Seroquel and is investigating AstraSeneca (sp?) since several young soldiers died suddenly while on this med for sleep. It is an off-label usage for sleep aid, and is not healthy for all people. I am 60 years old, was prescribed Seroquel last year following a suicide attempt and hospitalization. I have gained a lot of weight after weighing exactly the same thing since in my early 30's (size6 then...now a size 10 or 12). I started having this horrible feeling of being "too under" in the morning to wake up and this weight on my chest like I couldn't get any air. After about 15 minutes, it would go away and I was able to get going, but it felt awful. So, 5 weeks ago I tapered off. I know it takes many weeks/months to get medication out of your body/system. Have felt a little "speedy" sometimes and have gotten in a few verbal altercations, but am getting stuff done around the house, happily whistling like I used to, and my husband says he's glad to have the old "crazy" me back instead of the zombie me.

Well good morning everyone. So far today is a great day. Its been 6 days since i stopped Seroquel cold turkey. How do you describe the cold sweats, complete restless sleep, being up every 15 minutes, constant movement of my legs,...oh yah, HELL!!!! I would rather take a baseball bat to my face repeatedly to take away the pain of feeling like someone else is controlling my body. Nothing i have ever experienced in life can compare to getting of this god aweful med! Reasons to get off, lets see....sick of the stoned, zombie, fried, feeling. I needed to see what life was like without it and after one day off i awoke from my coma. I loved it and wanted me back. The following 5 days have been complete torture. I have taken it for 2 months and was hopeful that the benifits would out way the side effects. THEY DID NOT.....READ THIS AGAIN. THEY DID NOT. I truely can not think of a single purpose for this med. Yes the raceing thoughts did stop but so did EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY OTHER THING. I was a zombie. Good for a day or so , but not for long term. Pls take my word for it when i say its not worth it.

hey i did the same thing about 3 months ago i stopped cold. then i went to carrier clinic and got on again because its terrific with my sleep. the doctors found the perfect combination for me and the way i need the levels to be for my functioning level. my suggestion is to go to your psychiatrist immediately. but what i would suggest more is an impatient. depending on where you reside i would suggest if it is jersey. carrier clinic in belle mead. its the best place i have ever been. my life did a complete turn around and i am 150 xs better than i was when i went in and believe me. that was not good. please go into an impatient explain your situation and find a doctor in that clinic that listens and will help you out. you need to get on meds that will lessen the withdrawal get you leveled and then if you dont want to be on meds you can get off properly again with the help of your doctor. best wishes. inpatient will be the best choice. i waited to long before i went and i almost wound up dead. im so grateful that my family placed me there. best wished to you steve.
