My partner has been depressed for many years, though his depression is something that was only acknowledged, and diagnosed, fairly recently, when he finally sought help for his state of mind. Now, his doctor is suggesting amitriptyline. Can I ask what kind of side effects amitriptyline tends to have? Thanks!

What dosage is the doctor that is treating him thinking of prescribing? I have to say that amitriptyline is a fairly heavy drug, which is often used for major depression. Changes in appetite, including weight loss, are often associated with amitriptyline. Having a dry mouth, feeling nauseated, and headaches are also possible. Watch out, as amitriptyline does not work for everyone. In some cases it can make the depression worse, or even cause mania or psychosis.
