Hello, good people. My best friend has been diagnosed with manic depression and his doctor thinks that he should take neuroleptic when he is in his manic episode. I would like to find out what kind of side effects these drugs can cause. I don’t know much about them. Thanks for replying. Bye!

Hi, there. Neuroleptics are medications that are used in treating various psychoses. Those are usually schizophrenia, manic depression, alcohol psychoses and others. They can show various side effects. Extrapyramidal syndrome is the most common. Those would be various movement disorders. I am talking about dystonias, tardive dyskinesia, parkinsonism, etc. Some vegetative reactions are also possible like hypotension and tachycardia. In that case, your friend’s psychiatrist should be consulted. I hope everything will be all right. Bye!
