Anybody do it? I went for a run today and had to walk back in a blizzard after only three miles because my IT band has made NO progress :x
Let me know.

Monk,
I suffered all last winter with major ITB problems. In the end what fixed my problems was gettting rid of the orthotics I was using. Have you looked at your foot wear? Have you changed something in before all this happened?

I have been running in the same shoe type, so I do not think it is that. I had gone to a podiatrist and a running specialty store. Both concluded that I needed cushioning and a little stability (I am pretty neutral).
I think it could just be from running on the crowned streets of NY.

Monk, I had an IT band problem for about 4 years. First the left leg, then the right. Mine was definitely attributed to the absence of stretching. And the thing that helped was not the ultrasound or electric stim at the PT, but rather getting stretched twice a week. You might want to look into that. Also, taking a bunch of time off helped too, but that's never fun.
As for the cortisone shot, don't. Cortisone will take away the pain and allow you to run, but it won't take away the problem which is causing a tight IT band.
Find out the cause of the problem and treat that, not just the symptoms.

I'll echo FlaRunner; I've had them for hip bursitis but it's a hopped up bandaid for the underlying issue. It will hurt like the dickens, then help for a bit but it's not a permanent solution.
Good Luck!! :|

I had one for my hip bursitis, about 18 months ago. It seemed to do the trick for me at the time. Even with all the cycling I have done I haven't had any problems.
