I have decided that I want to get back into running after a 2 years break and have been out twice so far.
The reason I originally stopped was that I had a terrible outer knee pain on one run which left me unable to run for a few weeks. It wasn't forced or twisted - just on the course of 50 metres it got worse and worse til I had to walk home.
As I mentioned I just started to run again and on both occasions I have had the beginnings of this pain(after which I stopped immediately) but the next day or two after, after a walk of more than 100 metres the pain comes back.
I am not sure what is wrong - the only issue I can find is ITB syndrome - I have tried recommended stretches but it doesn't help. should I just minimise running and hope that as I get into it a bit more my legs will ease up and get used to running again? Unfortunately I have little choice but to run on concrete in my town - could this be aggravating it? I know that ITB can happen more often with over pronators(which I am) But I have good motion control shoes so I hope that this isn;t the issue.
Does anybody have a recommendation? Should I just try to run once a week for a while? Is there a better stretch than putting one leg behind the other and bending?

I totally feel your pain. I suffered from ITB for a long time and finally had to let it rest.

The thing with ITB is that you either run through the pain until it goes away, or you stop running.
I'd suggest seeing a physio or someone who specializes in knees and make sure it is ITB. You don't actually do any damage by running on it, it just hurts like blazers.
Everyone responds differently to ITB treatment, stretches didn't help me neither did sports massages. I did acupuncture and went to a podiatrist who measured my legs and discovered one was longer than the other (although this is relatively normal), he made a little wedge that goes inside my shoe and it took the ITB away over night.
