I don't think people in the good old days were backwards. When a girl starts to menstruate that is a biological sign that the girl is now ready for sex and to carry a pregnancy.
The "acceptable" thing you are talking about is to do with convenience and how our society is trying to change and control natural biological behaviour. Now that is VERY artificial and very unnatural. What society is doing is trying to defy nature by imposing such things on a biological being.

Most girls will wait and delay their sexual exploration BUT some girls will want to try and have some sexual experiences much earlier than others. That is in NO way wrong or unacceptable. Just because there is a law does not make when she wants to do, bad or evil or immoral. Thats the rubbish that society is feeding our teen girls. That is so wrong and unnecessary. What is best is to PREPARE the girl. No one can predict which girl will go out and have sex. Instead of talking about readiness it would be more responsible and mature to prepare them for the event (sex) and teach them about preventing pregnancy and STDs. Now, that would be so much better and even if the girl succumbed to temptation, at least she would have prepared herself against those consequences and hence protected.

I think it is a very personal choice and it should stay that way. No need for laws, certainly no need for anyone to use the religious or moral and values tag to sexuality.
One thing for sure is that the law should NOT have any role to play in the sexuality of an individual. We do not need the protection of the law. It is a choice and we teen girls can make that choice without the interference of the law, society or parents.

I agree. Most of the people making those arbitrary laws about the age that sex is legal first had sex when they were under age. The average age of first sexual intercourse is about 15.
