Hi:

For me, the medication Zoloft has greatly improved my ability to be productive and have close loving relationships. My ability to focus and complete a single task is at best non-existent without this drug and my patience level was completely transformed from obnoxious to kind understanding. In general my outlook on life was one that exudes “it’s great to be alive” during my use of Zoloft.

However, like many others I questioned the need to take this medication and decided to experiment and see how I felt without taking the medication. So, I too made the decision to wean off Zoloft (three months ago) after years of taking it.

Since then, I am feeling many of the conditions others have attributed to withdrawal syndrome. However, I am not sure if what I am feeling is the result of withdrawal versus not getting the medication I may need. I also suspect in reading some of the other Zoloft related posts here that this is perhaps true for several others.

If I compare what I am feeling now with notes I wrote myself before and during the process of starting to take this medication… I find what I am feeling currently is very similar to my mind set before taking the drug -- where I am again constantly questioning if the next moment will be worth living.

At this point I am considering going back on Zoloft as it seems I am in a better state using it. My thinking is… if after returning to the drug I find myself in a better state of mind then I will just have to face the reality that this medication is helpful and needed.

I would appreciate anyone commenting here that also believes what they are feeling may be the lack of medication after stopping taking Zoloft -- especially someone who has traveled the road of going back on the medication.

Sincerely,
Rob

Hello RobertUSA,  I have been on Zoloft for 7 years and it worked for me.  Two months ago I thought I didn't need it and I wanted  to lose weight so I weaned myself off of it.  It has been 5 weeks Zoloft free and I have been crying over every little thing, depressed thoughts and all that c**p that I felt before going on Zoloft 7 years ago.  I went off Zoloft without my doctor's knowledge to see how I would feel without it.  My family and friends noticed my mood changes and they didn't know I stopped Zoloft.  I called my pharmacist this morning and he said I need to get back on the Zoloft as my symptoms I am having are not withdrawal, but major depression.  I am going back on my Zoloft and see how it makes me feel and yes I was told I have to wait at least 3 weeks to see it working and I have to experience all the side effects when I first started taking them 7 years ago, but anything has got to be better than this depression.  I guess it's just Life's day to day c**p, job, relationship...blah blah blah because I should be happy.  I am blessed to be retired, great health, nice home, etc so it's just those darn brain waves not communicating I guess in this day and age of things.  It certainly wasn't like the good ole days back in the 80's.  More stress for everyone now a days.  Anyway, gonna get back on them and give it a month and see if I can start feeling happy again.  I worked for the past 7 years, but now I know you just can't stop taking them to lose weight, it's not worth it.  Your not along buddy!

Thank you for your response. I read so many posts here where people alleged it was withdrawal effects when the symptoms they went on the medication in the first place returned after discontinuing its use. Your post brings me one step closer to the reality that this medication is needed. I just have to face the truth that I have a long term illness and this medication makes a difference in my well being.

Rob

PS: I would appreciate if we could keep sharing as it seems we are having a similar experience. It is kind of hard to evaluate this medicine from inside the jar and an outside perspective is appreciated and very useful. Thanks!

Zoloft side effects and withdrawal is one of the most common problems of many people when they are using Zoloft. It is different for most people though many have complained about withdrawal lasting for two weeks up to month. If you feel that you are better off taking the drug and you can function more when using it may help in making your decision whether to continue or not.

Thank you for your response. I agree it has to be an individual determination but input here and from love ones is very helpful in finding clarity. I also have to say, the more I read over other topics here on Steady Health pertaining to Zoloft withdrawal; I am becoming more convinced that part of what others contribute to withdrawal is the effect of needing to have stayed on this medication.

Im going through same stuff. I've been off zoloft for 2 months. Now im getting angry easily, feeling more impulsive, and always irritated. I dont like taking meds. I thought maybe it was because ive been under more stress the past couple weeks. I think its because I'm of zoloft.
