Shortness of Breath as a side effect of stopping smoking? I was smoker for 40 years

I quit smoking 3 months ago after smoking for 40 years. I had never been short of breath before but I am now. WTH?? I wasn't expecting to have perfect lungs after I stopped smoking but I certainly didn't expect them to get worse. Anyone else had this problem?
