You know? It's really funny that you say "you lost a friend". I've been on Chantix for almost 4 months now. When I'd been on it for a month and a half (but, only been smoke free for a week and a half), I did a survey on quitting smoking. He asked me to describe what it feels like, and suggested a divorce. I went further and told him that it was more like...A best friend that you've known almost all your life, doesn't die, but, all of a sudden you stop talking to each other. This best friend would have been with you through all the bad times in your life, and to just lose that friend just like that. That's what it felt liek for me. I'm sorry to say that 2 weeks ago, I slipped up and bought a pack of cigarettes and smoked the whole pack in a day and a half. Since then, I've had pretty strong cravings, or urges that tell me I really want a cigarette. Then, I just tell myself that I can't want a cigarette, because, number one, it's just gonna taste nasty, and number two, I'm a non smoker now, so, why would I want a cigarette. It's the number two thought that makes me no longer want that cigarette. My doctor is keeping me on them fro a full 6 months. I've gained about 35 pounds in the last 4 months, and it seems like i'm still gaining. It's all in my middle section. I'm a 48 year old woman, and going through my changes in the last 2 months I think. So, I don't' know if the weight gain is from Chantix, (I don't think I'm eating more and am more active), the changes, or one of the other meds I'm on, like diclofenac. I DO know that Chantix works to make the cigarettes taste like c**p. Before I stopped smoking, I'd been a pack to pack and a half smoker for 34 years. Oh and I went through major major withdrawals of smokes. I wanted one so so so bad on the 12th day, all the way up to 3 weeks I think. So, those of you just starting out, hang in there, the really bad cravings (which I think after the first week, are more of a habit, because the smokes taste like c**p) go away after 3 weeks. I still have an occasional craving, but, even if it's a strong one, that's just my brain telling me "hey!!! shouldn't we be having a cigarette about now to celebrate?" or "hey!!!! we should be having a smoke now because of this problem or that problem". That's just because, habitually, that's when you'd have a smoke. Just hang in there, the urge will go away quicker and less frequent and they'll be weaker.

I am on my second week of Chantix and have had minimal side effects. Some websites suggest oat extract as helpul when quitting smoking. I do notice that oatmeal or Cheerios in the morning make a positive diiference in how my system reacts to the drug. I am more alert and do not experience digestive problems. Excess sugar also seems to aggravate those side effects.

To be fair u don't know how much is chantix or withdrawls. Do your homework honestly it's the most aggressive yet most successful...but with all medication not all people can use it

I really get a kick out of ignorant people who think everyones body is the same. I suggest reading the lawsuits from the people and familys of people that had tramatic events from taking Chantix some that did not survive them hence the block box warning. Its wonderful for the people it helps, but certainally worse the smoking for the ones it harms.

Hello, I feel your pain about failing. After my first round on Chantix, I was smoke free for 12 weeks until I allowed some family and health issues to disrupt my life and threw me off track. Now, I'm on week 3 of Chantix and haven't had but 2 smokes the entire day. Hopefully, tomorrow it will be ZERO!

I have been taking Chantex for a month. Ran out of the medicine and thought I was good to go.
Felt like I had a fever and couldn’t get out of bed for an entire day.
Got more meds and now I am getting the chills and feel like c**p.
I don’t want to stop taking the medication as I am worried about getting sick again

I am smoke free for about 36 hours now.. I started chantix 5 days ago. Chantix changed my “friend “ into an ashtray. That’s what every puff tasted like! I am not strictly following the recommendations and only take one full tab per day in the morning.. I did not start with the starter pack. I’m not gassy, bloated, nauseous or having weird dreams. (This is my second time using Chantix) I think the reduction in dosage is the trick for me.. still urges come but then they go.. brushing you teeth is a great way to get over urges quickly
