I have a C4 lateral disc herniation. My neurosurgeon (an older, very experienced doctor) recommends an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with spinal fusion. I mentioned minimally invasive surgery (Percutaneous Arthroscopic Discectomy) and he said he knew of a couple local "quacks" who performed it (he actually said "quacks") but vehemently recommended against it. My 2nd opinion was anti-PAD also. Another doctor who performs it said I am a good candidate. Why the schism in philosopy?

My doctor is performing a percutaneous fusion on me in two weeks. He said its best for people with only one severely damaged disc and for those who are fairly young...I'm 26.
