My sister has allergy, and she is diagnosed few months ago finally. We were always wondering why she wheezes and cough, but now we realized that is allergy. Her doctor prescribed her Benadryl when she had her last appointment. We have never used any anti- allergic medicine, so we are a little bit skeptics about any new medicine. That is why we would like to hear what you could tell us about Benadryl.

Benadryl is an antihistamine that blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body. Benadryl is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes. After this, it has been used in treatment of hives, rashes, itching, and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold. Benadryl is also used to suppress coughs, to treat motion sickness, to induce sleep, and to treat Parkinson's disease. Some persons are not able to take Benadryl, or they require a lower dose or special monitoring during treatment if they have any of the conditions, such as overactive thyroid, hypertension, heart problems or asthma. Your sister should take Benadryl exactly as directed on the package or as directed by her doctor. If she does not understand these directions, she should ask pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain that to her. It is recommended to take each dose with a full glass of water. I have one more interesting thing to tell her, she could find helpful in therapy with this medicine. Because Benadryl is a sleep aid, it should be taken approximately 30 minutes before bedtime.
