Last summer I had outburst of allergic reactions. That was the first time I have had close encounter with allergies. I have got it thru with some medications that I have used on my own without prescription. But this year it was more serious and I had to visit a doctor. He has recommended me to take Benadryl or some other medicine that has dipenhydramine. What is dipenhydramine?

Dipenhydramine is a type of antihistamine drug that have drying (anticholinergic) and sedative effect and it is used to treat allergic reactions. It blocks the histamine which occurs in the body during several types of allergic reactions. Histamine causes changes in cells and then sneezing and itching are developing. Antihistamines prevents histamine from binding and stimulating the cells.
