I am 28 years old and a year ago I had to start with inderal because of high blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythm. As I want to stay pregnant and plan to stop with bcp soon, I’d like to know something about beta blockers and pregnancy. I have heard that they are safe drugs in pregnancy, but would like to hear real facts from personal experiences. I have not yet talked to my physician, I’m thinking about discontinuing the therapy while pregnant. What do you think?

I think that would not be safe for you and for your baby that you discontinue the therapy. Hypertension is likely to occur in pregnancy even in women that don’t suffer it normally. I was in the same situation 3 years ago. I was using my pills all the time and was properly monitored, because beta blockers can low blood pressure in baby, and also low your blood sugar and heart rate. I think that you should talk to both your cardiologist and ob and to adjust the dose or switch to another drug.
