My girlfriend is on Kariva birth control but lately has been feeling under the weather so she took antibiotics (Augmentin). She was told to use a different form of birth control on top of her Kariva just in case. Our back-up method of birth control failed but it was 2 days after she took her last antibiotic. Just to be safe we went and purchased Plan B. Im pretty worried and about what effects the antibiotics could have and if she could possobly get pregnant.

She couldn't have gotten pregnant through what you described! Only some antibitoics caus some BCP's to lessen their effectiveness, as her doctor told her to use back up this would be one of them! BUT the antibiotic does NOT totally negate the pill, it just lessens its effectiveness - it can be upto 5% less effective - but like i said that is all about the pills! So since she was already OFF the antibiotic and still taking the BCP AND you used Plan B! There is NO way she can be pregnant OK? To get pregnant there needs to be ovulation and the pill stops that. sometimes the pill allows ovulation - thus the 1% failure rate, but this is not common! So you both can relax and take it easy OK? And i will tell you what I tell EVEYRONE else worried about pregnancy! To totally take it out of the equation you wear a condom and right before you ejaculate pull out! so there are no "Failures" or "Ooop's" The pill AND the Condom A/nd the pull out will totally protect u both OK? good luck and health! hope this helps!
