I agree with the previous comment about Jolessa and weight gain. I was on it for one year and gained over 15# almost immediately.
Right now I'm having a terrible time with Yaz.
Thinking of trying to go back to the mini pill.

I have been on injection for nearly 18 months now, the weight gain has been unreal, and 1st week after having it I'm an emotional wreck with a bad headache, which is not good for anyone!
I have tried researching contraceptives to see if anything will stop weight gain, but so far I've had no luck, except to find a study from scientists claiming no pill or injection causes weight gain!!!! Which is daft, as all leaflets advise the possibility of same.
Anyone have any further ideas??

I'm astounded reading this. I just had to have a transvaginal ultrasound because they thought I could have ovarian cancer and it appears that the symptoms are the same as what you all are writing. The most alarming is I gained 13 pounds in 2.5 months.
Anyone know anything about a pill that doesn't make you gain weight?

I definitely understand how hard it is to deal with the birth control side effects. I'm only 16, i had to start the patch to regulate my periods. I use to average around 115 in wieght, and after two years on the Ortho Evra patch, I weigh around 135-140. The weight went all to my wasit and side abs, or lack there of now. I went from a size 5/7 to a 9...I also deal with PMDD. Terrible migranes, cramps painful enough to make me fall over, and extremely sensitive emotions, its way too much to deal with.
Im thinking about switching to YAZ to help with the PMDD and weight gain. I heard the hormones they use help rid the extra water weight and help to tackle all of the PMDD symptoms. The weight gain is also too much, I exercise regularly, run every day, and eat healthy; i dont drink pop either.
Any suggestions, PLEASEEE?

I was on the shot for three months which is the minimum amount of time you can be on it becuase thats how long it stays in yoru body. I gained 15 pounds in two months and couldnt help but eat ALLL the time, but had not other side effects. The nuva ring was just weird. I was on the pill for a while too, I was super moody and not myself I dont think there really is an answer everyone is different. I am thinking of maybe going on apri I have heard pretyy good things about it?

I agree with the need to find a birth control option that doesn't cause weight gain. Before starting ortho tri cyclen loaround this time last year I had no problem eating whatever I wanted with mild exercise. 3 months in however I started gaining wieght like crazy to top off at an extra 15 pounds on a petite 5'2" frame. Believe me; it was not pretty. No matter how little I ate or how much I exercised the weight was stubborn and wouldn't come off. I've been off the pill for 3 months now and have so far lost about 10 pounds but I need to start bc again and am unsure of what to do now since I fear weight gain round 2.

I disagree. My first birth control pills was ortho lo, and I gain an average of 5 lbs. every month for the amount of time I was on it (about 1 year) I have read and heard that this is not to normal for that specific pill, however I just want people to be aware that it is possible.

I'm 23 and quit the Pill last June. I've had 1 period since then and a little spotting (gross, I know, but it is what it is). I was on the BCP about 2 years and decided to go off the Pill to try to lose weight. I have been trying to lose weight for awhile and my efforts just didn't seem to be paying off. I was stuck at the same weight for about 2 years. I gained a significant amount of weight (20+ pounds) after going on the Pill. I know that could be a combination of stress, not working out enough, not eating right, and being on the Pill, but I think the Pill certainly didn't help anything.
I've been off the Pill now for almost 3 months and I've had 1 period as I mentioned above. My husband and I both miss me being on the Pill... condoms don't really "do it" for us.... so we haven't been as "active" and whenever we are, we tend to not use anything and just try to be "careful" (dumb dumb dumb, I know). Also, I've had really horrendous mood swings since being off the Pill. I really liked being on the Pill and not having to worry about getting pregnant.
I would LOVE to find a Birth Control Pill that (A) allowed me to lose weight and (B) feel emotionally stable.
ps - anyone recently off the Pill notice darker facial hair? yikes.

I am 27 and am just now back on Lo-Ovral (one form of the pill) after a two year hiatus. Before hand I had been taking it since I was 17, in combination with synthroid to treat my hypothyroidism. I had first experienced significant weight loss up until I went off of the pill at age 25, when I gained 30 lbs. in a year, with no change in lifestyle, diet and activity level. I have since then been put back on the pill and am working hard to shed the excess weight that I gained so rapidly. 10 lbs. so far! It is unclear whether or not the pill had anything to do with it, or perhaps a fluctuation in thyroid hormone, but it is an experiment I'm hoping will land me back at a healthy weight.

I am 24 and have been on birth control for about 4 years now. I have tried both Yaz and Loestrin 24 and they have caused LOTS OF WEIGHT GAIN! I have gained about 40 pounds since I have started. I exercise regularly attending workout classes and doing cardio and weight training on my own and have been watching my diet so I know it is not because of that. If anyone knows a birth control that doesn't cause weight gain please tell me! I am getting married in like a year and a half and I really need to lose weight and keep it off.

wow, i think i got off lucky! I have been on yasmin for two years now and i haven't gained any weight. In fact i lost 30pounds! I don't know if i can tribute that to the yasmin but it seems that it at least keeps my weight at a steady level nomatter how much i eat. Don't quote me on this, i was jsut surprised to see a lot of people complain about weight gain coz i was lucky enough not to have that problem once i started with yasmin

I was on yasmin for 6 months and had breakthrough bleeding every midcycle so it was like i had my period every 2 weeks. I also had implanon for 6 months and it had the same effect. With that said, i had no weight gain or any other symptoms. I was told that both implanon and yasmin where the best types of contraceptives to take for minimal side effects which is true but breakthrough bleeding seems to be a real concern for me. Ive read a lot of reviews and have come to the conclusion that every woman regardless of body type, height, age, weight is going to have a different effect to every type of contraceptive they may take. Which is a real pain in the butt! Has anyone tried another contraceptive pill which has also had minimal side effects. I have also tried monofeme (weight gain), trifeme (weight gain), levlen (spotting, weight gain), yasmin (breakthrough bleeding). Can anyone suggest something else? I'll try anything...

I've been on BC for two years and tried both Yaz and Nuvaring. Both have caused steady weight gain. Before BC I weighed a solid 110 pounds and could eat whatever I wanted without gaining a pound. I have since started eating much healthier and exercising more often and have still gained 20 pounds since starting BC. It's extremely frustrating. If you don't want to gain weight due to BC, I would suggest avoiding Yaz and Nuvaring.

this site lists the pills that are lowest in the hormones that cause weight gain (yasmine is one of them and therefore should NOT be causing the weight gain people are experiencing)
