Hey ya, so I need to start taking the oral contraceptive Yasmin. I had taken it before and was quite happy with it. However, my period is already few days left and it may come now or in a month (I have irregular periods). Can I start taking Yasmin now and use other contraception for the first 7 days or do I HAVE to wait until my first day of period? Thanks

Hi Guest,

The prescribing information states that you can take it:

1.  The first day of your menstrual period (Day 1 Start)

or

2.  The first Sunday after the onset of your menstrual period.

Yes, you would need protection the first 7 days.

Ideally, you would check with the prescribing doctor.

Hope it helps.
