Hi Kerry, thanks so much for this post and I totally agree with everything you've said. I have recently started citalopram 20mgs again and thank God for them because without them life was hell. I too have recently joined Slimming World and the weight loss is incredibly slow, BUT I will continue to go to classes and be happy if I lose even half a pound a week!!! Here's to us!! x

This drug has definitely caused me to gain weight! There is no others reason for my unusual sudden gain of 10 pounds over 4 months! It is not something else, it is the Citalopram.

I have been taking citalopram for 10 years. I never related it to my weight gain. I have been having tests to find out why I'm so hungry all the time and they find nothing. I'm going to try reducing my dose.

Hi I am taking citalopram. I didn't only gain weight but also experience hypersomnia-the condition of being sleep and drowsy all the time with long hours of sleep in a day. I have been on citalophram 2.5yrs and gained 2.5 stone! I've reduced from 40mg to 10mg and going to get off these asap. Please tell me the weight comes off!!

I also gained weight on this med . I took it for over a year . I am only 5 ft 4 and curvy- I cannot have extra weight added by a med. I am active and eat healthy. I have been off this med for a month and the weight is dropping but the anxiety is also coming back. I don't know what to do.
