Hello! Regarding the fact that my doctor is suspecting that I have lupus nephritis, I am very concerned. My friend told me that I should not be worried because lupus nephritis has various classes and that some classes are not dangerous at all. Is this true? If it is, can you tell me something more about classes of lupus nephritis?

Hello! Lupus nephritis is divided in five classes, from I to VI. Class I is not showing lupus nephritis (I mean, patient is not affected with lupus nephritis). Class II represents mesangial lupus nephritis, but it is good that for healing this type are enough corticosteroids. Class III represents focal proliferative nephritis and it is treated with high doses of corticosteroids, which is usually successful. Class IV represents proliferative nephritis and it is treated with corticosteroids and immunosuppressant drugs. Class V represents membranous nephritis and class VI represents Glomerulosclerosis.
