I AM 26 YEARS OLD I GOT INJURED AT WORK IN JUNE OF 06, NO TREATMENTS DONE HAD WORKED ON MY BACK AND AS FAR AS I KNEW ALL I HAD WAS I PULLED ALL THE MUSCLES IN MY BACK. DR AFTER DR AND I FINALLY GET TO A PAIN MANAGEMENT SPECIALLIST HE WAS THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. HE RULES ALONG WITH THE NEURROLOGIST THAT I SPRAINED MY NECK, BACK AND LOWER BACK
AND I HAVE 2 BULGING DISKS HE SUGGESTED THE CORTIZONE STEROID INJECTS I HAD 4 PROCEDURES OF THE INJECTIONS AND 2 PROCEDURES FOR THE BURNING OF THE NERVE AND VERTIBREA A TOTAL OF 30 SINGLE INJECTIONS AS WHAT I COUNTED. PAIN WISE IM OK NOT GOOD NOT GREAT BUT OK. STILL HAVE PAIN DEEPENDING MOSTLY ON WHAT I DO AND THE AMOUNT OF TIME I DO IT.
BUT..............................
I HAVE HAD HAIR GROWTH ON MY FACE!
WEIGHT GAIN OR SWEELING ON MY FACE, STOMACH AND LEGS
MY HAIR GROWTH ON MY LEGS AND UNDERARMS HAVE STOPPED
I HAD MY PERIOD FOR 1 MONTH AND THIS MONTH IT HAS NOT CAME I'M ABOUT 1 WEEK LATE
NIGHT SWEATS
VERY VERY VERY SEVER MOOD SWINGS
DEPRESSION AND FATIGUE
PIMPLES ALL OVER
I FEEL A LITTLE RELIEF AS FAR AS MY BACK... THAT I CAN GO BACK TO WORK IM NOT SURE BUT ALL THESE THINGS THAT I AM FEELING AND THAT ARE HAPPENING TO ME ARE SO TRAMATIZING THAT I DONT WANNA LEAVE MY HOUSE. THE WORST PART OF IT ALL IS THAT IM A FLIGHT ATTENDANT. WE ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE A GOOD IMAGE FOR OUR PASSENGERS BUT HOW CAN I WHEN I LOOK SO HORRIBLE ABOVE ALL DO MY JOB WITH THE PAIN IM IN.
ARE ALL THESE SIDE EFFECTS COMMEN FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE SHOTS OR AM I ONE OF THOSE RARE CASES THAT GOT ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS???
PLEEEEEESE SHINE SOME LIGHT AND LET ME KNOW THAT THE SWEELING WILL GO DOWN AND IF SO IN HOW LONG AS WELL AS IF THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello 26 year old flight attendant,
I feel as though I have to tell you my story. I just stumbled on your and I'm so glad I did.
I too have had 30 single steriod injections in my back also, for spineois and a disc that is pressing on my nerve--not fun.
The last 2 I got where done with a MRI type of machine, so when the doctor injected the shots in me he could see where he was placing the needs. Well like I said the last two, I was suppose to get one more this session. But after talking with the tech in the doctors office about loosing ALL this weight that I have put on, she said ( and I quote) "Honey, you want be loosing any weight while doing these shots, you will just keep on gaining." I have put on about 30 pounds since doing the shots!!! 30 pounds! Ok, my primary doctor told me in the begin if I lost weight ( that I put on due to pregnancy) that my back pain would get better! Then she refers me to this doctor for the steriod injections--which she probably knows I will gain MORE weight from!!!??? Does this make any sense to you? I couldn't believe it. The weight was not helping my situation, but yet send me to a doc. that will inject me with steriods and make even heavier!!!!! Does that sound right to you?? Me either, so I was suppose to have one more injection, then go another 6 months and complete the series again, until GOD only knows when! Well, I told them I wouldn't be back, I will deal with pain some other way, not sure how yet. But there has got to be another way. I think I will try a chiroprator or a---oh the doctor that put those little needles in you? Sorry I'm having a brain freeze right now, I'm sure you know what I mean. I wish all the luck in the world, that you get back to your wonderful life flying around the country. I am envyous, I always said if I didn't have my children when I did, I'd probably be doing that very same thing--good for you!
Oh, and the mood swings, well my primary doctor has me on an anti-depresant now---go firgure? Best wishes to you, please, feel free to email me and let me know how you are. Maybe in some small way we can help each other out in this or at least laugh about how doctors (excuse my English) srew you!!I swear they all work together--all to make that mighty buck!
My email address is: _[removed]_, my name is Brenda Carroll and I live in the great state of MASS! LOL
Again, keep the faith and best of luck..... peace 8)
P.S. If you do write and I hope you will, please put who you are in the subject line (box) so I won't delete you. Thanks.....
Take Care

Hi,
I got muscle spasms off and on for many years caused by a pinched nerve, often, but not always, it was the sciatica nerve. I was told I had a disk problem and one doctor wanted to give me cortisone shots. I declined.
My pain was frequently so bad, that after I would lie down in bed in an attempt to relieve the pain, I was unable to sit up or stand. I would have to slide out of bed and crawl to the bathroom.
Although I would rarely get one of these more than once or twice a year, I kept Percodan next to my bed for years. To avoid addiction, I would allow the effects of a pill to wear off so I would feel the pain and try to function without another and only take another if the pain was too severe.
Then one day I thought back on my disk and pinched nerve problems over the years and realized that during the periods when I didn't have the problem were the periods when I swam regularly. I now swim regularly and haven't had a disk/nerve problem for years.
Swimming on your back can be very gentle - it doesn't require you to turn your head.
Of course, if you don't have a break in the pain, you may not be able to start swimming. In which case, I'd look for a very highly recommended physical therapist.
I received cortisone shots in my feet on two occasions, both hurt, neither helped. Medications all have side effects, I'm one of those people who tend to get them.
A study showed that most back problems clear up by themselves without surgery. The study suggested a majority of surgeries were unnecessary.
I saw something on TV news a while back about new procedures for dealing with disks that require only a needle, not invasive surgery. I believe it was developed in Texas. I would certainly investigate that if I had the problem again.
I have a neighbor that swore acupuncture relieved his painful back. I guess I'd try that if nothing else worked.
Good luck.

I have 3 disc that are lying on top of each other..bone to bone...pain all across the lower back and down my right leg. I had 2 injections and it did not help the pain...post op instructions said I would large acne like pumps....that is an under statement...all across my chin and around and on my nose is terrible. I too, have had swelling in my legs and ankles and fatigue. I have not had any hair growth except I have noticed I need to do my legs more often and I do have a bloated stomach.
I have made the decision not to have any more of the injections!!! What I am considering is Lazer Surgery.
I dare say I have helped you but at least you will know you are not alone.

I too have had all these symptoms. I didn't know I would but I have had severe swelling. I gained 35lbs in 4 months and 10lbs in the last week and 1/2. My back still hurts. I didn't know about these side effects before I got the shots. I wish I had known. Thanks for your post. I don't feel like I am crazy now :)
