HI. I had a hemorroidectomy 6 days ago. Overall, things are going pretty well I guess. I'm just feeling really sad and discouraged today. It's like one day I feel pretty good and then the next day I have so much pain again. I'm wondering how long the pain after BM's will last? About five minutes after I finish going, I feel like my anus is going into throbbing, stabbing spasms!!! There is nothing I can do to ease the pain. Not even the bathtub soothes this pain. I just have to lay in bed, perfectly still, and wait for it to pass. Sometimes it lasts for 15 minutes, other times 2 hours!!! Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for listening... :-(

Hi Amie, I am so sorry to hear that you're going through all this! It sounds like you are pretty unhappy and I have mentioned to people that it's a good idea for people who undergo major surgery like this. There are other people on the forums who are going to hop on here and help you a lot, I just wanted to post and tell you to keep with it! This is a long surgery to get over, so I wish you a lot of luck. :-)

Amie, I'm really sorry to hear you are in pain. I had a hemorrhoidectomy 7 weeks ago, I had one large internal and lots of big external ones cut out. I'm still in a lot of pain, especially with BM's... however I just went for my 2nd post op appt. today and I got a fissure due to this surgery. I guess some of my tissue around the anus shrunk and when I have a BM, it tore and now it causes me extreme pain with bleeding, so I have to have surgery again this Wed. to correct this problem... I can say that your BM's will be uncomfortable for awhile. I don't want to scare you but thats just reality with this surgery... They say do your Sitz baths, and drink a lot of water and eat high fiber and take your stool softners but other than that, really it just needs to heal... I still lay around a lot too because of the pain. Yes I did have spams for up to 3 weeks after my surgery. I think that part is normal, along with the awful pain of course! I wish you luck and please take it easy.... We are all here for you!

I know what your going through, I was in agony after every BM for the first two weeks, and it always seemed like I needed a BM so that was a lot of pain. I also had painful spasms when I climbed or descended any steps. Thankfully those times are behind me now. I was offered percocet for the pain but I rejected it and just lived with the pain instead (as it was really only after the above activities when it hurt enough to cause me discomfort).

I just had my surgery four days ago and I am not sure whether I should have started looking at these posts or not. I have been having the same pain where I cannot even move after BM and sometimes for no reason at all. It is helpful to see that others have the pain on one level, but on another level I have read so many horror stories that I had never even considered that I more scared now than ever. I am wondering how fit the people on here are/were prior to surgery? I am not a triathelete or anything (and probably about 20 pnds overweight at 6'4 220), but still a pretty healthy 32 yr old who bikes about 50-100 miles a week, runs 3 miles 2 or three times and eats relatively healthy- so on one side I expected this to be easier, but compared to some of these posts I guess maybe it has been easier. I am curious if those with all of these issues were in decent shape prior to their surgery?
Thanks

I had surgery this past Fri. This is Monday, I'm in more pain today than I was when I came home. I'm not sure which was worse the surgery or the daily problem itself. I've been suffering with constant pain for almost a year, and daily for the last 8 months. This is actually my second surgery for this. I had surgery appox. 2 or 3 years ago. They called it a partial. I've had numerous bandings and nothing seemed to work. This time they called it a complete hemorroidectomy. I pray that means I never have to go thru this again. Can someone tell me how long before the sutures fall off. There are 2 or 3 sets of sutures there, and they are excurtiatly painful. No matter what i do, cough, walk, sit it sends me through the roof. It takes forever just to get to bed, then once thats accomplished the next trick is finding a comfortable position to sleep in. None of the pain meds are working. I've done everything i've been instructed to help. Any ideas?

Hi Amie:
Don't get discouraged. 10 days after my total hemorroidectomy(internal/exernal) I took the kids to Disney World(I had an extre strength Tylenol in my pocket in cas I needed it.) Keep drinking your water. My doc gave me metamucile to take 2 x a day and Miralx once a day and the BM pain is now insignificant. Lidocaine ointment also helped a lot for me. I also sat on an ice pack off and on for those 10 days in addition to the sitz baths (three times a day). All this stuff helped me with the throbbing pain. I'm 14 days post and I don't need to use any medication. Good luck and get better soon.

Are there any complications from drinking a few days after the hemorrhoidectomy surgery?
