I was diagnosed with ADHD way back in the '50's when it was called hyper kinesis. I was prescribed and have been taking Desoxyn since I was 6 years old, or as far back as I can remember. Without the drug, there is so much purposeless movement most people would not want to be around me. In addition, I am always covered with bruises from running into things when I am off the drug. I know, without the drug growing up, I would have ended up in prison. At 50, I developed severe sciatica and back pain and have consequently had three spinal surgeries resulting in five fused vertebrae with the biggest titanium hardware made. If I take desoxyn or adderall, my back pain become too severe to handle without pain medication. I have quit taking ANY drugs. However, if I plan to ever work again, I am in a catch 22. What causes the back pain with amphetamines; is it the cause of my back problems in the first place; has anyone done any studies of the long term affects of amphetamines....I mean long term like 50 years, as in my case; is there any evidence suggesting a relationship between amphetamines and back pain/damage? I am a 58-year-old female that use to be a high-level technical manager.

My daughter has ADD, she started out on concerta but after a year it stoped working.  We swiched to Focalin XR 20mg but now her OCD has escalated so bad that its effecting her school work.  What other medications are out there that would at least not put her OCD into overdrive.
