Update! I am pretty much back to normal now. No more withdrawal symptoms! I have experienced a little of my old anxieties but I would much rather deal with that than gain another 10lbs each month. IT DOES GET BETTER!!! There's hope!

I started Lexapro in August 2015. Took me about a month to taper UP to 10 mg. I took the Lexapro until January 2016, when I decided I was done with the extreme fatigue, night sweats, no sex drive and 20-25 lb weight gain (I usually weigh 145, got up to 170!!!). So I spent three to four weeks tapering from 10 to 0. Guess I should have given it a little longer, but I was ready!! I went from 10 to 7.5 in about 3-4 days with no symptoms. Then went down to 5 and spent about a week there. Once the dizziness subsided, I went down to 2.5 mg for a few days. Dizziness started to get worse, but kind of stabilized. I then went down to 1.25 (wish) for a few days before stopping altogether last Thursday. Well lets just say since last Thursday , I feel awful. My biggest complaint by far is the dizziness. So much dizziness all the time. I hate it. I am also very irritable and cranky and also cry at the drop of a hat....But I refuse to restart this stuff. I did take Cymbalta in the past and I remember feeling crappy going off of that as well (took me 6-8 weeks to feel better after being on for 18 mos.)
Anyway, day 1-3 dizzy, crabby, emotional
Day 4-I stayed in bed all day, made dinner but wanted to pass out the entire time
Also went to the store and bought fish oil, B complex vitamins and 5 HTP. Going to start those today.
Will continue to post updates. WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Day 5: Woke up at 3 am with a bit of anxiety. Slept crappy last night overall. Today I was able to do some work from home (about 2 hours). I also went outside and enjoyed the sun in my face. Have been dizzy ALL day. Feel pretty pukey tonight. I just want to cry, it doesn't stop. I have never experienced anything like this. Started taking a b-complex vitamin, as well as 2 fish oils a day. Praying that tomorrow I feel SOME relief! I will also take a benadryl tonight to help with the dizziness. This is just ridiculous...

Day 6: Still dizzy as all get out. Also, I am struggling regulating my moods. I will be p!$$ed one second and crying the next. The dizziness is so frustrating. I guess I should be thankful that I don't have the brain zaps. Also, not sleeping well at night. I also called the doc and she told me to take 3 mg of melatonin at night to help regulate the serotonin. If after a week that doesn't help, she said to try the 5HTP

Day 7-Same feelings different day. VERY dizzy and its really comes and goes. One second I feel pretty normal, the next, I swear I am about to pass out. Also was screaming at the PC for some reason, then started to cry. So, definitely having emotional ups and downs! I am still taking the fish oil and B-complex vitamins. Took the 3 mg of melatonin just a bit ago. Should be out soon! :) Hoping for some improvement tomorrow. I'll take whatever I can get :).

Day 8/9 The dizziness and emotional swings were so bad, I decided to reinstate at 2.5 mg and taper with the liquid from here. When I reinstated the lexapro, I took in the evening. I woke up the next day with NO dizziness. Crazy what these meds can do to us...
Day 8-10 will be 2.5 mg, day 11-15 will be 2 mg, 16-20 will be 1.5 mg, 21-25 will be 1 mg and day 56-30 will be .5 mg. The wd symptoms were so bad I had no quality of life. This way, I can taper slowly and let my brain adjust. Not worth suffering just to be off 1 month quicker....Will keep everyone posted.

OK, so last Saturday I reinstated at 2.5 mg. I finally got my oral suspension Lexapro on Tuesday and am now down to 1.8 mg. I HIGHLY recommend tapering with the oral med, it is SO much more manageable. Obviously, I have a bit to go, but I am just decreasing by .1 mg every few days. If I wake up a little dizzy or crabby, I just keep using that dose until I don't. Hoping to be completely done by the end of the month. We shall see!!

OK so its guest3 here again. After going from 2.5mg to .1 mg over the course of 3 weeks, I am now off of the Lexapro (again). Dizziness and rage are back. Oh joy. Fortunately the rage is WAY less and the dizziness is a little less. Not going back on no matter what at this point...

This will be my last update...OK folks, so after the taper from 10-0 over 6 weeks (plus one week extra in there when I went off at 2.5 and had horrible side effects).....When I finished with the final taper from 2.5 - 0 using the oral liquid (highly recommend), I felt pretty crappy again for about 7-10 days. I was dizzy, nauseous, very very tired, and rage, OMG, I was one nasty raging b!t@h! I got into several verbal arguments that week and would then cry. Super frustrating. But around day 8, I woke up and it was just gone. Crazy. The dizziness is much better. While still there, it is much less frequent and happening less and less. The fatigue is also starting to slowly go away. I am so glad I am finally on the other side of this withdrawal. It was hell, BUT know that you can get through it. Hang in there, I promise it'll get better!

Hi my name is Mina. I am on day 14 of stopping lexapro. I was on 20mg for 5 and half years. I tapered to 10mg for one week then stopped cold turkey 2 weeks ago. I have been dizzy, feelings like my brain has been shaken, little zaps of electric currents, feeling like my brain is lagging behind then a rushing when it catches up. Ive had explosive rage. My body has been aching for days like ive got a bad flu or virus. Nightmares and trouble sleeping. Butterflies in my stomach. Nervous and scared feeling especially at night. Feel hot flushes all over my body. Tired but can't sleep. I actually feel quite crazy. I don't know how much longer this will continue. It is the worst feeling because it doesn't feel like it ever gets better or lets up. Every day is just as bad as the one before. I desperately search the net for survivors of this withdrawal. When does it leave does it happen all at once or gradually show improvement? I am just hanging on..... please please can someone who has come through this tell me when it will stop?

I came across this when I was trying to figure out why I was feeling crazy dizzy. At first I thought it was an ear infection or labyrinthitis. I had recently been tapering off escitalopram/lexapro and had not linked the two until I decided to do a web search on lexapro withdrawal. Suddenly it all made sense. I had been tapering off the lexapro for about 6 weeks, I had been on 10mg for about 6 months and then I went on to alternate days of 10mg/5mg. I did that for 2 weeks then on to 5mg for 2 weeks. I then took 5mg one day and nothing the next day. It was at this point that my symptoms started. I finished taking lexapro 5 days ago and since then the dizziness has got worse progressively. The brain zaps that I keep reading about makes total sense to me and I was relieved as I thought that I was getting a brain tumour or something!! I am wondering how long I can expect these to last? I don't want to go back on the lexapro but if I have come off to quickly then maybe I should consider taking a low dose to ease the symptoms and then come off them slower? This is unpleasant and makes day to day functioning difficult.

I have been off lexapro for 6 weeks, tapered from 10 mg to 5 mg for nearly 8 weeks then stopped, I have been through all effects that made me go on them, at first irritability, mood swings, anxiety, I ll go for a day without withdrawals and then back to anxiety depression, racing and obsessive toughts, today I got the dizziness exactly 6 weeks after I stopped, I someti think I will never feel normal again was doing so well on lexapro. But I feel like i m giving up if I do, but there has to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Would like to hear anybody who managed to get symptom free. Thank you

Hey, It took me about 3 years to overcome the withdrawal after tapering off. The infernal dizziness and brain zaps continued but with less frequency as the years went by. The doctors told me that withdrawal doesn't last that long but it did for me. I am emotionally stable and clear at this point in my life and so happy to be off lexapro. Wish you the best.
