Does flonase cause weight gain?

I started taking Flonase as prescribed for severe allergies 6 weeks ago. I gained 7 lbs. My diet and my active lifestyle was exactly the same if not more careful with calories, with an increase in activity level. I have been off the Flonase for 4 days and have lost 3 lbs.  I think any steroid will cause weight gain once it's absorbed into the bloodstream. The extra weight gain in the belly/torso area is not worth it! 

 

 

I have been using flonase off and on for the past 6 weeks and have gained 7lbs - I seem to be putting on 2lbs a week and I am not convinced the medication is the cause of my recent weight gain and I have not been eating differently, in fact I have been eating less and drinking less and my weight never fluctuates normally.  I am not going to use it again.

Side effects from steroids are basically unpredictable. Weight gain is a very common side effect of many medications. It is too easy to blame the person and not look at the real cause which is often medications.

Yes it does and can happen after only one use.First you have to realize youire not really hungry 2nd try to eat healthy like some raw fruit or veggies and 3rd never take it without a definite need for it.Most important is stop its use as soon as medically possible and although not usually easy it can be taken off (the weight) by simply eating more healthy over the course of the few weeks following the cessation of the medication.Hope this helps ..

I am so happy to have happened upon this website. I have been taking Flonase because I am an outdoor runner but have encountered problems with allergies. I have gained over 15 pounds in a short amount of time and have been out of my mind wondering what the hell happened! I was researching something else and this page popped up. I will no longer use this nasal spray. I have more lower belly fat than ever before. No matter what I did it wasn't going away. Just stopped 4 days ago. Lost one pound. I think I will suffer or find another allergy solution.

I'm also happy to have found this post. Started looking on the web for side effects and could only find weight LOSS -LMFAO. I've been on it for 6 months now, and have packed on 25 lbs!!! I seriously had no idea why... The only change I've made is allergy meds.  Wish my dr would have warned me! I'm stopping immediately. Thanks for all the posts. 

I started using Flonase a few months ago- I weighed 117 for the past year and a few weeks after starting Flonase I noticed I was gaining weight. I shot up to 123 for no reason at all! The weight also seems to be around my stomach and I am still hovering around 123. I am a hiker and my diet hasn't changed. I am going to cut back on the Flonase. I love how well it controls my allergies, but I would rather carry a tissue in the pocket of my size 2 jeans than buy a larger size and accept this weight gain. :(

I have been using this medication for approximately six months. Almost a 20 pound weigh gain. All in my stomach!!I couldn't figure out what was causing it, as I wasn't eating anything different,than usual ,nor in excess. Good grief. My hair has been falling out by the handful. Stopping it effective immediately.

Doctors tell us shite.

I asked my doctor yesterday about the possibility of this happening with Flounase. She laughed at me! I have gained 15 pounds since I began taking it. She also put me on two Z-paks for sinus infections,twice in two months. Extra gain there. I can't win on this!

I feel for the people who've had bad experiences with flonase/flixonase. I live in Hanoi and I suggest badly from allergies, sinus congestion, sneezing fits, head-colds, etc AT LEAST three days a week.. I started using flixonase 18 days ago and, so far, it has obliterated my problems. I had been losing weight SLOWLY before hand and I'm continuing to do so. Flixonase has had a tremendous INDIRECT effect of my fitness - Since I'm not sick all the time, I can train more effectively. Again, I feel for the people who've had bad experiences, but for me it's been a life saver.

I couldn't figure it out, I went on a liquid only fast and gained weight! At the same time I started my fast, I started using 200 MG. of Flonase a day per my eye, ear & nose doctor for a sinus problem.  I gained two lbs. in two days and my ankles were quite swollen...I dumped this expensive medicine, what a waste. It took me four days to lose the two lbs.. Sure glad I checked into the weight gain before I gained any more lbs.

I have been using flonase for about 8 months and gained 25 pounds. I exercise and watch what I eat. I will stop using flonase.

They really need to stress the weight gain with Flonase.So aggravating!
