I'm only on 37.5mg and on it as prescribed and have developed hives. I'm not tapering off or trying to get off of it but it's really troubling. The hives are excruciatingly itchy and numerous. Insides of my arms, sides of body, outside of thighs. The hives in my inside arms are the worst. I've scratched till they are inflamed and not one antihistamine works. I even took 3 pills and no relief. And of course my GP is closed for the holiday (I'm changing as soon as I can) so I'm pretty miserable and unable to wean until I speak with the GP. I really liked this pill which was helping with my moods while navigating peri menopause and my back pain. Now I'm not sure what to do I really liked this medication.

I've just stopped Effexor due to many side effects plus the rash on my legs. How long did it take to go away. It's better but wearing pants irrates it. Know of anything I can do?

The doctor told me to take a Pepcid plus Zyrtec. Supposedly the Pepcid has a antihistamine in it. It didn't do much for me but thankfully the hives/rash finally subsided. But the weird thing was I wasn't going off of it, I was taking it faithfully and I liked what it helped me with but then the hives came and I knew I had to stop taking it.

Wow! I started getting hives 3 weeks ago, started on my back, then my arms, legs and neck with a dry throat and lump. It's now going in my lip and face. I started taking 275 mg a month and a half ago. I was just thinking laying in bed, I wonder if this has anything to do with the Effexor, I'm convinced. Thanks

Thanks for your message.
I was suspicious from the beginning that I got my hives from Effexor.
I made several tests but I have not allergies. I'm on 5 months now with severe hives and the only thing that can help me is cortisone. But taking cortisone make depressed again it had great effect on mood, I don't want to take this medicine so long but I can't stand the extreme itching and burning. I try antihistamines, herbals, diet but nothing so far. I'm off Effexor now 2 months. I need to take some medicines again cause my depression severe and I don't know what to do. Hope to get better all.

Maybe. But you should make allergy tests to see if their is an allergy reaction from other cause.

I've been on Effexor for 20 years and now I'm going through the same thing. A great cream is "Betaderm", Betamethasone Valerate USP 0.1%. Is there any oozing from the rash? Severity of say Scales?

yes! i'm having this issue now. i bridged to 20mg prozac to help get off 225mg of effexor. i can't tell if it's from lack of effexor, the prozac, or sun sensitivity. i spend a lot of time outdoors.

Oh my soul, THANK you so much everyone for sharing. Wowzerz I have been on Effexor for the last 2.5 years and the last 9weeks have been in and out hospital and doctors Rooms for facial swelling, throat swelling, big red welts so itchy I felt like I could peel my skin off. With no answers. It's VERY embarrassing too. I am so GRATEFUL to have come across this forum. I am weaning off at present. Pheeew. I am currently on a mega dose doubled morning and night to cope with the itch. Any other ideas. Creams?
