Wow, I am so glad this forum is here. I have received 3 cervical epidural pain blocks and have had the worst time with them all. After the first one I was ok the day of and day following. Then headaches that radiated from my neck over my entire head For a couple of days. The second one caused such a severe headache I ended up in the ER 2 days later and had to get 2 shots of morphine, that was really a bad experience as well. This third one I got least week caused the headaches again, but when I told my dr about the ER visit he said drink caffeine to help relieve it, believe it or not, it actually helped faster and better than the morphine shots without the side effects off the morphine. But now I too am late with my period this month, 8 days already. I am not having any cramps that I usually get the day before, however, my breast have been very tender for 3 days. I don't know, I think I will be going and getting a test done this week

I also am really hot! I thought the weather report was wrong the other day because I was so hot. It's been about 3 weeks since the shot, and the last 2 weeks, I've been feeling hot. I also missed a period, which happened last time.

i have researched this extensively online, and i have found tons of websites that say steroid injections can affect your menstrual cycle. i had a steroid injection one month ago and another two weeks ago. i just started my period today and it is 15 days late. i have had a horrible time with it- for the past three weeks or so ive had excruciating cramps, anxiety, nervousness, nausea and a lot of vomiting even with prescription anti-nausea medication, irritability, depression, weight gain, insomnia.
i have had steroid injections and taken oral steroids in the past and i have this reaction every time. my symptoms were worse with the oral steroids than with the injections, but i am having a really bad reaction this time. i have already talked with my primary care dr and he does not want me to ever take oral steroids again, and after this experience with the injections, i have come to the decision that i dont want to ever do the injections again either. i am so relieved that i am finally getting my period. i dont know how long the other symptoms will last, but at least the cramps should subside soon.

I had two epidural/corticosteroid shots 10 days apart for bulging disc neck pain. They both contained Kenalog and so far I have had my period for 3 weeks NONSTOP. I'm scheduled to see my Gyno but they are booked for the holidays and I can't see her until January. This is very frustrating and angers me because the doctor did not mention this side effect at all!. I certainly don't want to be bleeding for 2 to 3 months straight. I want to hear from women that have experienced this. Did you periods return t normal? How long did you bleed?

I have experienced similar. Since my epi inj I have been getting my period every week and a half to two weeks. Starts with the brown spotting for a few day then boom, I bleed for another 5-6 days with horrible cramping. I have always had light periods and no cramps. I decided to deny the 2nd shot, I felt like I was a maniac after the first very short tempered, hot all the time, wake up sweating, and this period, I can't wait for it to stop

if you don't mind me asking , where was your injection given?? I have herniated disc c5-6-7, and I have now had 4 injections, did not notice anything different from period stand point after first two, but after my last 2 I have had my period non stop as well, its not full out period, more like a discharge that has just been there non stop since my 3 rd injection, it never goes away just always there. Rather annoying!!!! when you feel like sh*t anyways then you add this lovely little side effect...I've always been regular, have 4 children and the only time I missed my period is when I was pregnant with them. I've never had issues like this...so Im concerned if this hormone is affecting me this way, what other effects could this have on your body??? breast cancer is an estrogen fed cancer, and this seems to be messing with my estrogen so I m concernd about the long term effects as well.

I had an epidural steroid injection on 12th Feb 14, as I have two prolapsed discs.
I had a period about a week before this, then about 3 weeks ago I got the brownish red discharge that I would normally get when my period is about to arrive. However my period never arrived and I've had this discharge now for over 3weeks. I'm only 29 so definitely NOT the menopause in my case.
I really regret the ESI, I feel it has caused me a lot of side effects and has given me zero pain relief.
In 4weeks I have gained over a stone. From the day I had the injection I have suffered with hot flushes and insomnia and mood swings. The only fortunate thing for me is that 5mths ago I had trouble with my gallbladder and lost 2stone and dropped into the underweight category, so my body could afford to put the stone on that I've gained. However I'd like it to stop now!
I'm now on more medication than before as I need sleeping tablets. My consultant is going to perform surgery next. I never want an ESI again

I just wanted to comment - that I too had this problem after getting a steroid injection for hip bursitis last year. My period, more or less, lasted for 7 WEEKS STRAIGHT. And towards the end I was feeling very dizzy all the time - most likely mild anemia from all of the bleeding.
As someone mentioned above, I too was not warned about any menstrual side effects post-injection, and my gynecologist also did not seem to believe the steroids had anything to do with it (even though my period has been for the most part regular for the past several YEARS - spanning from 28-34 days inbetween). A 7 week long period out of no where, post-injection, when you have never been irregular in your whole life --- YES the steroids are to blame!!!
And the reason why I am visiting this thread now, a year later, is that unfortunately I now have a herniated disc (I am very athletic) and have had no relief after 3 weeks of anti-inflammatories and physical therapy - so my ESI is scheduled for 3 days from now :( 2 month long period here I come... :( But I can't handle the back pain anymore and don't want to skip straight to surgery so I have no choice. Stinks!!!!!!
