I find it strange the nobody's Drs list this as a syptom. It happens to me every time and it's listed on thing I might experience. This time, I started my eriod the morning of the injection and my eriod cometely stopped by the next morning.

I'm so glad I saw this because I've been going through the same thing for 9 months now. I had gotten an epidural and steroid shot back in December. Well I haven't had a period since. Nine months later! And I feel terrible! Hot flashes, and I'm tired all the time. I've been to 3 doctors and every single one thinks I'm going through the change. I'm 39! 38 when this started! I can't get a doctor to help me figure this out! I'm beyond frustrated.

I have been getting the epidural shots in the back of my neck for herniated discs for about a year now, last year I received my first series of three and I had prolonged periods. This year I received my first series in the month of may and I still have not gotten my June period. I thought I was late so I was nervous then I noticed that I skipped a whole month, so I'm going to the doctor to see if everything is ok, but I'm pretty sure it's because of the shot.

I was 46 when I had the first in a series of 3 shots for back pain, it worked and my pain was completely gone. To date 20 months later I have not had much pain in my back so never had the other shots, but strangely my periods have disappeared with my back pain. I had a pregnancy test which was negative. Had hot flashes for most of this year. Based on this I will tend to agree that the steroids does affect a woman's cycle.

I'm so glad that I found this. I had a nerve root block over a month ago and it has interrupted my cycle. I had the injection a few days into my period. The next month, I started off having brown discharge like you do at the end of a period, and some pink, like at the start. This went on for over a week. Then I got a period that was heavy-ish, dark at first, and after a few days, it was bright red. I was thinking "wtf?" This lasted about 8 days, so over 2 weeks in total. 2 weeks after it all stopped, I am getting another period. Starting off the same way as before.

I'm going to book an appointment with my doctor for this coming week because I'm worried about it. Not only did the nerve block not work, but this side effect is obviously not a good one because of the prolonged bleeding.

At least I feel a little better knowing that others have been experiencing the same or similar.

Hi, this is my second year being treated for back pain. My very first series of steroid injections were in 2016 from the pain treatment centers of america. One of the the side effects listed was that it did affect menstruation. I had 1 injection every 2 weeks x3. I had 2 light periods and a month later a very heavy cycle. Couldn't leave home for about 2 weeks, felt as if i was hemorrhaging. My primary didn't believe that it could affect my cycle, but the nurse at pain management explained it does. My cycle returned to normal about 2 months later.

After my first steroid injection at L5/S1, I had the heaviest flow of my life. Three weeks later I received my second injection. And three weeks later my third. Over the nine weeks total, I had two menstral periods each month. I brought this to the attention of every medical person involved to only be met with, “huh, that’s not a side effect”. Then they stopped completely for four months. I started again today. During this time I had insane heat radiating from my body, I would sweat all of the time and I’ve easily gained 50 pounds.
