Help!
I had a stapled hemorrhoidectomy a little over 2 weeks ago. I have awful, smelly gas and it sticks to my underwear and pants. Is this normal? In addition, when I'm cleaning the area, I get brownish/orangish stains. I don't know if it's stool, discharge or what. Is this normal as well? How long will both conditions last? Any insight would be really appreciated. I'm really nervous about it and it's embarassing to say the least.

Dear Friend,
I had this surgery done 2 weeks ago and am suffering from the same syptoms you experiened. I would very much appreciate if you could let me know if your symptosms stopped and how long it took for these syptoms to go away ? did you have to take any treatment for these symptoms. I am having pain (like pricking inside) some days.

I take it you guys are referring to the PPH hemorrhoidectomy. As far as I know this is normal and it could be a few weeks for it to change for the better. You have to understand this is not the cleanest part of the body and it's not a part of the body that gets any rest so it could take some time to heal and most of the incision there still might be residual stools hanging around.
Are you taking any laxatives to flush out your bowels? I've been using 1-2tbls of castor oil every second day to help things along and to give surgical area a day off so to speak.
How has the pain levels been?
Make sure you keep the area as clean as possible. There are a couple of things you could do to help catch the discharge 1. Wedge some surgical pads between your cheeks and 2 use some sanitary napkins like the ones women use, you now the ones the ones with the wings on them use those for your jocks to catch any leakage.
My farts i think are the worst (smelliest) they have been since the surgery. My wife is getting sick of the Dutch Ovens :-) and I tell you what when you do one in she super market make sure you move away from it quick smart !! and don't go in elevators!! XD
On a serious note one thing that can help with gas is charcoal tablets i do remember this is a way of getting rid of gas in a normal person but in your condition I'm not too sure if it would work , but you know what they say no harm in trying.

Worried2008~I had the THD on April 9 and yes, I had terrible gas too which went away with time and more normal BM's. I have also had and occasionally continue to have the 'prickly feeling' - must be normal. My gas was much less by the third week ... hopefully, yours will be too.

I had hemorrhoid surgery 09/14/2022 and I am currently on day 5 post op this has been by far the worst surgery I’ve ever had. The pain is horrible day 1 of my surgery I had to poop later that evening and I thought I was going to die. I started pouring sweat and burning up stripped down to just bra and panties my husband got me cold wash clothes to put on my face and turned the ac down to 60 he had to help me to the couch and I almost passed out. My doctor told me that I’d be in excruciating pain for two weeks he said this was one of the worst surgeries to ever have. But so far on day five I am doing so much better not having as much pain and also pooping and passing gas. The gas is horrible smelling though. Also if you happen to have this surgery be sure to do the sitz bathes they work miracles and use a heating pad on your bottom area it has helped me tremendously!!!! I go back to work tomorrow!!!! I am hoping it doesn’t take me months to heal as I’ve seen and read posts that some people it takes a long time to recovery. I wish anyone the best of luck if they have this surgery. I have prayed so much that God heal me correctly and heal me fast because it’s been excruciatingly painful.

I got my surgery exactly one week ago. I still haven’t been able to have a BM, how long did it take you? I’m in so much pain with gas it feels like

Im glad I found this thread! I had the PPH staple surgery a little over a week ago and my gas smells awful. Different. I chalked it up to remaining blood and fluids around the surgical area. I think it will just take time. I do the Sitz baths but what I have found to really help is a hand held bidet. Wonderful for cleaning the area, better than the harsh toilet paper. Go on Amazon and look for the handheld ones that you squeeze and get a nice shower to clean your areas.

Hello, Hemsbegone.
This will depend on individual factors such as the severity of your condition and the amount of tissue that was removed.
Your surgery went well? How many hemorrhoids were removed?
From my experience, the first "normal" BM showed after five days.

That is good news, indeed.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict when your farts will stop being smelly. This is because the smell of farts is determined by the foods you eat, your gut bacteria, and the amount of gas your digestive system produces.
But I am pretty sure it won't last for too long.

I had the surgery August 31st. I STILL have weird smelling gas. The discharge will curtail but you may experience some incontinence. I’m really annoyed none of this was told to me before the surgery.
