Have any of you tried or are on the new pill Seasonale (sp?) where you only get a period 4 times a year? Do you like it? Did you adjust ok to it?

Just curious of some opinions of women who are using it because my dr. mentioned it for me. I'm worried about the breakthrough bleeding because I'm having that on the regular pill right now and my dr. thinks it's probably because I keep losing weight.

Thanks!

I don't want to leave you answerless, but I really have no clue about the pill. I have heard both pro and con about it. Good luck with it!

I don't know about that pill, but I really like the nuva ring. It has the smallest amount of estrogen of any pill, and it gave me no extra side effects. Plus you just put it in/take it out once a month. It is very low maintenance. :D

I'm on Ortho (Trysprintac is the generic) and have been for years - I have some friends who have done norplant or some of the others that regulate your cycle to a few times a year, or not at all and have heard mixed reviews. One didn't get her period for a year after she went off the patch... I have heard good things about the ring thing though!

I was on the generic version of Ortho for many years. When I went in the hospital last year, the docs were mad my doc let me stay on the pill after 30 an for as many years as I was on it. Apparently, it really is a bad thing to be on the pill for more than 2 years at a time, especially once you get in your 30s.

I was on Depo-provera shots for about 1-1/2 years. When my cycle started back up, it was awful. Awful. Plus, I had absolutely no libido. None. While I was on depo, if I never had sex or any kind of intimacy ever again, it was a-ok with me.

You might want to seriously talk about whether you'll have more kids and decide if you'll get your husband fixed.

Thanks for the input. I actually will probably just be on the pill forever. We were going to get my hubby fixed (we're done having kids) but I have something called PCOS which messes up my hormones and I don't have cycles on my own. So my doc thinks I should just stay on the pill to help regulate things. That's why I'm thinking of Seasonale so I only have to deal with periods every month.

Funny, no one said anything to me about that. :umno: I've been on the pill for 15 years--up until I got fixed a year ago.
I did the Depo, and oddly that worked out well for me--I'm one of the few though--I hear most women don't like it.

My doctor said it was fine for me to basically be on it forever....but maybe that's just specific to what's going on with me. But I'm surprised any doctor would say it's bad to be on for more than 2 years generally, I would say not all doctors would say that....?

It's kind of concerning because being attached to the military for the last 15 years I've seen at least 30 providers. Some care, some don't. So it wouldn't surprise me that I haven't been told certain things.
That being said, I've been off almost a year and a half and am considering going back on just to regulate the moods and everything else. :?

I did that years ago also, after having some problems with anemia and doctor knowing that I was a runner and didn't want to bother with getting a period all the time. He said it's not bad to not to have your period every month, it's bad when your body doesn't want to have a period every month. I've never had that problem. I can't be on bcp anymore due to hbp and these 2 years off bcp are the suck and I have to watch my iron levels again. So now that I went and let my DH get fixed, I'm considering having my uterus yanked for good.....don't want it, don't need it.

The pill can contribute to high blood pressure, yes. Mine has been higher than normal lately, partly because I've been on steroids (another thing that can raise BP) and lack of working out. So I took myself off my pill just to see what would happen. I am anemic and we were using the pill to control that plus just make things regular/tolerable. But I've been on it 9 years and I want to know what happens when I go off. If its the same as it was, I'll be back on soon. But if things change I wouldn't mind not taking anything until I need it. I too have several friends who did as you did with the skipping of the placebo week for a couple months, one had endometriosis and the other had some other kind of painful problem and the doctor suggested that. So its not awful, and every. 28. days. isn't exactly normal but at the same time I don't know if 4 times a year is good either. I'm taking OB this summer, I'm sure I'll get more info then...

I just started Seasonale 3 1/2 weeks ago. I was on Depo for 9 months and my body just couldn't adjust to it. It was 9 months of hell. Breakthrough bleeding all the time, I guess because it doesn't have any estrogen in it. Anyhow. The past month everything seems to be going alright. It's kind of a pain to have to remember the daily pill, but I have another prescription I have to take daily also, so I kind of feel incomplete unless I remember them in the morning.
