Hi, yesterday I went to my doctor for a regular check up. I feel fine and I thought that I have nothing to fear. The doctor listened to my heart and heard unusual sound. He told me that I have heart murmur. He scheduled a bunch of tests to determine the cause of heart murmur. I am scared what this could mean. The doctor did not explain why heart murmur is dangerous. I am thirty seven years old man. Can you tell me how heart murmur develops?

Hi, heart murmur is a name for the sounds your blood makes when it flows through the problematic heart valves. Your doctor probably scheduled an electrocardiogram, a chest x-ray and echocardiogram. All this exams must be done in order to determine the cause of the heart murmur because it can be a sign of serious heart conditions. However in most of the cases the heart murmurs is a normal occurrence, but you should consult with your doctor just to make sure.

Most Heart murmurs are harmless. I had a heart murmur when I was younger, my doctor scheduled more tests to be done, but when I had returned for the tests the heart murmur had healed itself. The doctor said it was most likely a tear in the wall of the heart that had healed itself. Like I said, most heart murmurs are harmless, but you should always follow through with your doctor.

i was told my son had one as a baby. His was nothing to worry about.
I was told it was a sound they could hear when he got upset. It was probably the blood rushing through his heart too fast.
Just another example of a heart murmur.

I was upset at the time an very worried. The doctor wasnt.
The next time it was checked it had gone.

But you must go for all the test. Just incase!!

Hello, Iam a female, and at age 55 they discovered I had a heart murmur, a very prominent one, the doctor said. and palpitations. I was experiencing some shortness of breath too, He sent me for extensive tests and It came back that I had a hole in my heart. It was an atrial heart defect. that apparently I had had since birth. No , symptoms until 55 yrs of age, Well when I had open heart surgery they found I not only had one hole but two they patched the bigger one and sewed up the smaller one. After a few complications like staff infection and pneumonia? and draining some fluid off lungs, I am doing fine now. I hope this helps others. and doctors to check out those murmurs . especially in women at middle age with these symptoms that they hadn't had before.
